I took this from my place just before using a lightning trigger app.

The thunder here has been incredible.... extremely deep house-shaking booms that go on forever. The bolts have been nice too.

Geez Gus, can't believe that new one that started South of you; the rumbles are huge must look good from your place. Damn that Yarraman/Nanango area always want to go one better than us lol. But as I said earlier there's still enough heat out there for new ones to start up even at this late hour.

Best lightning activity so far this season. Many very close CG's. Entire area enjoyed the CG fest. Less rain on the west end with only 7mm or so at my place. East end, not sure, but I estimate 15-20mm as it was really pissing down at my work. Certainly the most uncomfortable day so far also.

Awesome photo gleno, especially the Q1 one.

At first glance, a big thunderstorm outbreak looks possible to me today, some possibly severe (damaging winds, localised large hail), and perhaps starting as early as the middle of the day as Mega mentioned.... before much of it contracts north towards the Sunshine Coast, Burnett, etc.
At this stage, it doesn't look like those southwesterlies will break through to the coast enough to prevent storms.

I hope it comes off and nothing complicates it. Map below:

Today concerns me more than previous days. Activity will be a lot more coastal and earlier in the day. I'd prefer to be further north toward SC but we should definitely see something down in or close to the Brisbane area. My only concern is things starting too early (midday/early afternoon) but with the temps we're forecast to reach ample heating shouldn't be a concern.

How hot last night? We did not drop below 25C here in Bellingen all night, and with the humidity the apparent temp sat above 30C:

Unusual for us but we've missed out on all the recent storms so getting very dry down here. Suspect we'll see the westerlies break through towards the coast today so fire risks getting up there.

It was deliciously cool in SEQ last night.

Just realised that Stapylton will be down until at least this evening...

Is there somewhere that bsch storm probabilities graph has already been discussed? If so, could someone please direct me?

I keep missing out here, with storms and rain moving either to the north of me or to the south. Impressive light and sound shows though. Fingers crossed for today.

Yes pablo - you are on the same frustrating SW to NE line the constantly misses the storms. Love to know the physics behind it. I think it has something to do with the point in northern nsw where the storms form up. Rarely get a storm from the SW make it to Caloundra.

We heard it in Capalaba and it got so loud and went on for seemingly so long that we thought it was a very low flying plane going overhead. There is a thread on the Brisbane subreddit that indicates the wide coverage of that perticular lightning/thunder event.

Is anyone able to explain how such an event would happen? I understand the basics about lightning but not how one could go on that long (~10-20 seconds depending on person/location/exaggeration/etc.) and that loud (seriously, it was that loud where we were that I stopped joshing with the kids about storm danger with myself and my wife nearly having a brown alert moment)?

I'm halfway between you guys. I think its just bad luck at the moment, but bloody annoying since its so hot. Maybe Glasshouse Alley will cop something this arvo.
