Today may have seen a new record for electricity demand in Queensland. Unofficial numbers is 9845MW for 30 minute demand at 17:00. (Previous was 9508MW, set last year.)

Little angry storm passed to the SE this time, cant win a trick here.
Yea whynot, felt like it. Taking into account black coal takes care of around 75% of load, the idea of renewables taking over coal as base load is simply bizzare.

What ever happened to the 3 o clock special? Storms seem to take longer to get going of late. Set ups just ongoingly borderline?

We're in line for the "top end"of this mass of rumble tumble. Looks very shelf-like on this end of thing. to the south East we can see Nanango/Yarraman getting trashed again with quite a few CGs going down.
As for here, dark & gloomy & awaiting the creeping giant once again.

Very appreciative of what we get here; not gonna always get them but when we do they are uniquely fascinating.
grin Good luck Gus your end of town should get a bigger portion than we will .... maybe!
edit: and I'll kick some back toward you if possible Elf!

I may have spoken too soon especially for the Gympie region if those cells stay on track...

Wow, a lot of wind at the start of that lot. I see the airport recorded a gust of 119k I can believe that. Bits of tree down everywhere around here; not large in my area but I did here a mighty crash down the road in the height of the wind.
16mm in the nylex; a bit of small pea sized hail but again it sustained over the whole time it was raining & never blanketed the ground.
Then at the end, another burst of wind.
Yeah Mega, again a newly formed storm for us so if it grows as it travels your way ... have fun, lol.

Sadly I think it has hit the Cushnie area - 3 bad storms in 3 days there, poor buggers.

Mind you, the temp of 21C is a welcome relief!

Big caps each day and steering is more sluggish further north and inland.

I think tomorrow will be our day in SEQ for coastal action.

Yeah bugger that, can say 119kmh wind gusts are no fun. Just back inside after pulling some decent sized tree branches off the roof. No major damage other than a few dented roof pannels. No power either, will post a full report after it comes back on

Actually there may come more from the south tomorrow. There's a weak SE'ly that washes out during the day. Different set-up to our previous days.

I'm glad I'm on the next grid to the town one, starts at my place, lol.
I read elsewhere someone had a hoop pine smashed in half. Anyway I'm off to the shops (hopefully they have power there lol).

The guster on that storm looks nice, though they usually spread too far ahead of the storms themselves near that area, especially at night, I've noticed: http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDR08I.loop.shtml#skip

A touch more hail too, some plants in the garden looking a bit shredded but thankful there was no damage here. Heard a report of a tree crushing a house in town and 'massive' hail in Nanango, hopefully all is ok and there have been no injurues. Just another day and another severe storm here in the S burnett!!

Ps. 20mm of rain from all that

Well I've just been for a drive downtown. Main power lines down on River RD so there's road closures between the highway & Kingaroy St. Power out in most of the shopping area; Plaza has power though.
The funniest sight I saw was, for a Wed night there were masses of people around the plaza, McDonalds KFC & The few pubs that had power. Obviously everyone packed up & went out to eat. Maccas drive thru is overflowing, lol. Gotta be a first for this place!'
A lot of street trees down, couldn't see in people's yards but I'd assume it'd be just as bad.
All in all, a few small branches in my front yard is a blessing.
edit: Yeah I saw some footage of Nanango's hail... slightly jealous but probably lucky I guess. And I saw that this storm had an STW .. not that I noticed anywhere till after the event. Guess if it doesn't happen in Brisbane, nothing gets reported. Still sirens down the street again.

Man what is going on with this Gympie radar, non stop lightning in this line of storms yet barely cracking the yellow on that radar. Looks so much better and obviously more realistic on Stapy, Marburg & Gladstone.

Mega, yes I've found on the WZ one once you expand the view (little minus sign) we get the Stapy image & it shows heaps better than the Gympie one.
And yes, the lightning in it does not relent.

Thanks Kazz, yep same goes for the BoM 512k as well. The guster just moved over the radar itself: http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDR08I.loop.shtml#skip

It's do or die for this bugger now. At this time of night, storms in that area always seem to die once they come off Mt Kanigan.

My understanding is Radar is setup for 128k
256k images show beyond radar ideal but not others, and
512k view is composite showing others.
I have always found 256k, to be most deceptive

Happy to be corrected

Not a drop here, but the lightning in that storm up north of Gympie is incredible.

I said a while back the Gympie radar is dangerously understating storms, today and yesterday has been particularly bad.
