Great info Steve. Backdoor Benny cyclones.
Richmond, Walgett and Moree tied for first in the state today at 40.6. Pretty mild compared compared to Winton in Qld which broke it's digitalised record I think at 46.5.

Southerly through here at 9:45pm, not all that strong, but at last a cool night for some decent sleep.

Very much a traditional Southerly here. It arrived around 9:20PM, a few tendrils at first but it's quite blowy now. Wind gusts around Sydney include 91kmh at Wattamolla, 70 at the Airport, a couple of 60s and more 50s. The temperature at Olympic park dropped from 33 to 23 between 9:00 and 10:00PM.

This is a beautiful Southerly. Gusty and cooling down the apartment. Temps went from 35 to a nice 24 within 35 mins.

Area around George's Hall has gone up. I said towards the end of last year I was worried about that area going up and it has. frown

The "duck" was in March 2001.

There's a page on NSW tropical cyclones at http://www.bom.gov.au/cyclone/about/nsw.shtml. I think Nancy (1990) was the last coastal crossing, although Violet (1995) went close enough to the coast to have a significant impact without actually crossing it.

Note also that there was a change in definitions in 1978 which meant that a lot of systems which were previously classified as tropical cyclones no longer are (Wanda, responsible for the 1974 Brisbane floods, is one system of this type).

A good site for all things cyclonic https://www.cyclocane.com

Bit grey. Change made night a little more sleepable but not my much. I think the strongest gust was at 12.23am at my joint.

Seventh consecutive night failing to drop below 21C (70F) in Sydney.

Marine layer cloud left over from last night's Southerly is breaking up to what looks like it's going to be a mostly sunny day. The wind dropped right off overnight. Winds now are light and all over the compass but they'll probably resolve into a NE'er near the coast soon.

The southerly arrived around 1.30am this morning with great gusto but it only lasted an hour or so. Same conditions here this morning as Steve777 described. Yesterday top temp only came in at 33c, it was the case of the NE v the NW neither winning, reasonably calm conditions really with high dewoints and humidity.

That smoke from the Putty fire made for spectacular skies late yesterday afternoon, hopefully no homes are under threat!!

Did you getty any smoke affected sunset pics Eddy?

Cloud thinning up here . Light winds. Pining for a good window thrashing, two or 3 day rain expression session. But who isnt in this dry spell.

I did, but I arrived at the lake 5 minutes to late.

Here is a pic of Broadwater, the first lake of the Myall lakes system. This pic was taken at about 7.20pm, so the sun hadn't set, had I have been 5 minutes earlier the sun would have been bright red.

Lovely pic Eddy. The view is how it looked from eastern side of Lake Tuggerah yesterday. Dust etc in sky usually make for the least dull sunsets I reckon

Sunshine, sea gales and cicadas out here today. Doesn't look like much change in the next few days.

That breeze feels almost cool, although according to MHL Ocean temps off Sydney are up to 25.1.

it is very warm here even after the southerly change last night, but it was hardly felt inland here 40kms from the coast,it seems a bit more humid so I was hoping for a few buildups to develop to my west, but nothing out there as yet.

By the end of this weekend we will have had 14 successive days of above normal maxima. Pretty remarkable.
However it does look like on shore winds will prevail from next week until March, hopefully bringing some rain. From Monday it will be significantly cooler, with the first below normal temperatures since the start of February.
