Not much cooler today in parts than yesterday really. Norah was actually a smidge warmee than yesterday. Cessnock hot again. Very warm western Sydney.

It looks like a there'll be a significant cooldown next Tuesday and Wednesday Feb 20-21 with long fetch SE'ers. While it might require an Ice Cream Vendor Alert, it doesn't look like there will be much rain, especially away from the coast. Another alert needed will be for the huge waves generated by Gita, which still still looks like a strong cyclone when positioned about half way between Sydney and Auckland on Monday evening.

The weather looks set to return to 'normal' late next week, with another cooldown early the following week. This is about the same time last year that the pattern flipped from hot and dry to warm and wet.

----

The BOM March to May outlook issued today now seems now to predict fairly average conditions for our part of the world, maybe a bit cool and wet in Australia's "Eastern Bulge" (roughly Newcastle to the Tropic, inland to the NSW NW slopes & plains) in March.

A warm day today, the high being 29.5 degrees. Cool enough to take my motorcycle out for a spin without being too uncomfortable. A lot cooler than yesterday which hit 39.1 degrees. I was looking forward to the possibility of 20mms falling on Monday, but the forecast now indicates only a possible shower delivering 1-5mms. frown

I'll be heading to the beach next week to take some photos of the swell produced by Gita. Catherine Hill Bay better not disappoint!

@Pickle. Merewether worth a look. If there is a possibility to get out the back, MR could be out.

It should bring the goods, apparently most beaches in Newcastle were closed today due to dangerous surf.

Looks like another warm night coming up, still 25c.

Tuesday next week at around 5pm from that graphic would be peak wave height from Gita for our area.

Thanks for that webcam link Knot. I'll be checking that out early next week.

----

Bright and sunny this morning with light Westerlies - a beautiful day. The temperature in Sydney plunged below 20 this morning for the first time in 8 days (to 19.9). I thought a cloud band was approaching - I can see it to the SW and it appears prominently in the Sat pic, but it seems to be dissolving as it approaches Sydney.

GFS is still showing a flip in the weather pattern on Sunday week, with a week of SE winds and showers for the coast. Access shows it hot tomorrow week then a cool change. EC shows an ECL in about 10 days time.

We'll see how it goes.

That cam is mounted on the Marine Rescue building atop the Swansea heads headland. It pans to show Moon island to the east, than around to the west with the Watigans in the distance. Going to be very dangerous on the bar in a few days. Not to be trifled with when substantive swell about. Many boats have come a cropper there. Lives have been lost. Often see crazies chancing it on a run out tide and big surf. Madness
Sunny now with stiff ocean breeze.

Winds on the immediate coast are turning Southerly, but I don't think there's any 'Southerly Change' as such, just a wind shift. It is still Westerly away from the coast for the time being, it would be nice if this could continue: 30 degrees, 15% humidity, light winds, but the the Southerly will arrive soon.

Strange out here today.

We had a min of about 9 degrees - well below forecast.

Since the early morning we've also been sitting under a slim band of cloud - so far we've only hit around 22 or 23 degrees - quite bizarre.

Our forecast top is 31 (Mudgee is currently that temp) and we might get there once the cloud leaves us.

The new Marrangaroo site recorded 4.2C which is absolutely insane considering mount boyce only dipped to 14.9c. Can't wait to see its temps for winter.

Don't think we will see a huge swell from it. And at least not till Sunday. The cyclone is strong but small. There will be very inconsistent bomb sets I suspect will catch many out crossing bars.

What a contrast to Dungog 3 years ago this April Eddy. I remember when the deluge started reading the comments on WZ about the stationary purple patch over Dungog and environs. Little did we know then what was being dealt with there. And now looks parched.
