Stock standard hot summer day here, 36C forecast and was reached.
Looking forward to a brief reprieve to mid 20s on Tues-Wed this week, and the possibility of a shower, before the heat builds again.
Unlike Feb last year or 2004, no records or heatwaves, just consistently above average temps so far this month.

Just to add something about wave speed. The math is as follows for a 'set' travelling in deep water.
Speed in knots = Wave Period x 1.5
So a set of waves with a period of 14 secs is travelling at 21 knots or around 38kph.
However the individual waves that are part of the set are travelling at twice the set speed. So each wave in a 14 sec period swell is chugging along at nearly 80kph.

Good to see a little upgrade in totals, that has been a long time coming. Lets see what actually pays now.

What I would like to see happen with next weekends system is the little injection of colder air push north and become a cutoff cold pool. That would be a synoptic outcome that could really pay up some decent rain. Maybe if we are starting to get upgrades...there are more to come. prepared to attach to any hope.
Once it rains a cruise sounds good....

Yep I love being out on the ocean, especially on a big cruise ship being looked after.
Last December in Vanuatu (Champagne Bay) water temp was 30C+ very relaxing, no hot water required in the showers coz the cold was hot enough!

35C here today, summer sun still quite hot, we drop to a top of 25C tomorrow that's going to be a real shock but a nice break from the heat.
Hopefully we'll get some of these promised showers to settle the dust bowl.

Might try a concrete slab pour knot. That seems to work too.

GringosRain,I drove through Sandy Creek Road today to head to Warners Bay,looking at the country through there is terrible,it looked like that the day before the sygma storm, and the lagoon at Paxton even dryed up,then in one night everything was in flood the next morning, they said back then there was 22inches fell up the Congewai valley in one night. So it can happen.I remember there was 2 feet of weeds dumped on top of the Congewai road below the hill at Paxton, the lagoon had a lot of floating weed islands and the rush of water lifted these islands and dumped them on the road,it took the council ages, working with machines before the road was opened again.

Yeah it could just turn on a dime Stormy, or it it could just go on for 10 years. Who knows.

A neighbor who recently travelled back from the New England, said that the Gloucester river is dry and so is the little Manning and the Barnard. He drove across the Barnard river at Bretti reserve and said he could only see a puddle way off in the distance. This time last year we were riding white water rapids there.
That is platypus territory. Terrible for those rivers to be dry. I dont know how often that has happened in recent history but I think it would be rare.

Mmmmm.
My son goes to a school in the Hills District. They have a lovely little dam which has a resident duck population of about 50.
He has been there for 4 years now, and the dam has never been empty.
Until now.
It is bone dry. It was full before the summer holidays.
The ducks have moved on to greener pastures, wherever that may be.
It's really sad to see.

Yes. A lot of people don't realise how dry it is until you see things like that Gringo & Homer,When this drought does breaks there must be going to be a lot of rain, and if it happens all at once,we are going to know about it.

Homer that sounds phenomenal and scary at the same time. This cruise has been a lot calmer than my first one I went on New Year before last.

I believe New Caledonia is doing a good job of deflecting any large swell.

Yeah Knot, it's amazing how that energy can go right underneath you. I've been particularly fascinated with how tsunami's can go right underneath a ship and not be noticeable.

I never wish to experience that nor wish it upon any location but the knowledge itself impresses me.

We will be arriving in Port Vila soon and there's stunning thunder clouds on all sides. Apparently it was supposed to be a fine day but looking at what we're sailing into it may not be. I wouldn't complain at experiencing a tropical thunderstorm either way.

Wow. Stormy3. Just wow. In some ways it really frustrates me how the Sydney CBD gets masked by the extremes of the dry and heat. I just feel if it wasn't so more attention would be given to the areas that have been baked and experiencing the heat.

Sorry, unable to edit. The above should read as masked from the dry and heat and not masked by.

feels unstable this morning. A few small turkey neck cumulus floating about. Finally actually heralding rain it would seem.

@Perfect Storm. I still watch footage of Japanase tsunami. Mind boggling waves. The power. Yet as you say a vessel at deep sea would hardly notice.

Yet another warm nite. High cloud. But wont take much to thickin.
