Surely someone in the BOM can update the downtime or maybe there's not enough space here to type it in !! mad

Next month some time. They have to get the technicians who built it to come over and fix it. They are from Germany so there is a bit of a wait

We had a further 8mm later last night (10-12pm) in a nice steady shower, so ended up with 33.2mm last all up yesterday. Now up to 117mm for the month. Happy days.

Ken, if you can/are able to answer I was wondering if BOM too has to rely on Marburg for its radar and real-time obs or do they have access to other radars (e.g. Brisbane Airport? Redbank Plains?). If its the former, does that make it difficult for monitoring?

Marburg is the main radar used when Mt Stapylton is down although the Grafton and Gympie radars also provide partial coverage of our region (and Moree to an even lesser extent).
Marburg has the disadvantages of lower resolution, no doppler capability and more time taken between scans although it, like all other Bureau radars can still tilt its antenna upwards at different angles and therefore allow 3D/cross sectional images of precip. The AWS's, rain gauges and satpics supplement this data.

Both the Brisbane Airport and the CP2 research radar at Redbank Plains (which was only used for research - not operationally for warnings) were decommissioned.

Wynnum Nth 24 hour rain 27.0mm, as TS died off before getting here.

That can be seen with the progression of local gauges. Manly 62mm, then 2km away to the NW - Wynnum got 43mm, then 1km to the WNW - we got 27mm, then Lytton 1km to the N got only 12mm.

123mm event total, fantastic.
So, we will be relying on Marburg for a while it seems. Curious as to how old it is?

The BOM said the Techs had to come from Germany about 6 days ago so unless they are coming by boat they should have been here well and truly by now.

Perhaps the whole thing is stuffed thereby needing a complete rebuild.!!!!
Either way the BOM should put out some information.

Not very good PR from the BOM people!! frown frown

Another 43mm for me last night, however that did come down in 30 minutes!

My total for the event was 184.8mm.

6mm yesterday from light rain. Another rain event that managed to miss our area. 16mm over the past week. We have recorded our 11th straight month with below average rainfall. Almost 1 year without a significant rain event. It is absolutely parched out this way. Leslie Dam is unbelievably low! Our main Dam for drinking water, Connolly Dam is not as low, but dropping fast! I have little excitement about any upcoming rain/storm events. Sorry to be a bummer. I am so happy to hear however how well everyone else is doing, especially the farmers in rain affected area who work so hard to put food on our tables.

Well that was a pleasant little bonus, I'd been keeping an eye on things mid afternoon, but got sidetracked inside until my old girl, who lives on the beach called and said it looked pretty black over Springbrook etc. Well nek minnit a guster blasted through and heavy rain arrived right behind it. Lots of flashing and rumbling, but didn't seem too close, so I was surprised to read on the local page that several people further up the valley had suffered electrical damage after a lightning strike. Another 38mm in the gauge for us. That rounded out Feb rather nicely.

8mm here, just terrible timing of the change really. Don't like the look of the models, too much troughiness between Oz & NZ again - and if EC is to be believed another big useless Tasman Sea low later in the outlook.

Mid-March is the current estimate for the return of Mt Stapylton radar but could be earlier or later depending on how the work goes.

35.0mm here overnight from our 7th consecutive day of rain. Everything is pretty saturated outside right now, big puddles of water in all low lying areas on our property. All the smaller creeks and gullys around the area are running and most dams are full. Won't even mention the grass and weed growth!!! crazy All in all what a fantastic wet/stormy period we have been in over the last few weeks, just a shame it wasn't more widespread and places like the southern downs got a decent drink too.

Anyway, event total of 117mm and February total of 230mm which is our wettest month since January 2013 and the wettest February I've ever recorded here.

GFS seems to show still the chance of more wet in its outlook hav'nt looked into it yet but might have to wait a week. I'm actually likeing Marburg seems more realistic. Though wind doppler is nice.
