6.2mm here over the past two days. The "rainband" brought about 30 minutes of light rain. Drizzly periods yesterday evening brought the bulk of that rain.
37.8mm in total for the event.

Inland QLD to become an inland sea according to ext GFS. Still a lot of uncertainty about the formation and movement of this inland low. From run to run it's lingered, shifted west, shifted east or been fairly weak. Definitely something brewing. How much we'll get out of it is pretty unclear at this point:

Frustrating without stapylton radar, but we have been spoilt by our expectations of it. I remember doing some analyses of storm rain for my work in the early 90s and found it amazing how a few images from Marburg radar fortunately printed by bom at the time and stored in a drawer in their offices really helped my work.
Now we have more modern radar (albeit not always working), Internet, and other websites continuously archiving the radar images.
Imagine what the forecasting difficulties would have been like before radar and satellites. And even the fact that now digital cameras, can make a forum like this a real connection for people with interest in the weather.

I still struggle to imagine how people storm chased without radar, real-time obs and all that.

Would be more from real time obs, but mainly just looking at the storm clouds build, then take a guess which direction there heading and try and intercept it that way. It's still difficult even with current technology to be in the right spot to get storm pics. I have missed out many times this summer because a lot of the storms made a left turn just before hitting the ranges, and not going the direction I thought the steering winds would take them. Out of all the storms we have had since the beginning of spring, I have caught only a handful.

Thanks Seabreeze, yes its still there, I drive past it often, but haven't been in the actual park for a long time. When I used to visit here on my annual holidays, all I thought about was going to the theme parks. When you actually live up here, you tend to take it for granted lol.

Observations from Cape Moreton have been down for ages as well. Important for seafarers as it is a reference point for what is happening on the open ocean before heading out. Must be made in Germany as well.

I don't really want to get in the radar debate, we have to be thankfull we have Marburg as a back up. However the Doppler is the best option when severe storms are about.

I would like to know are these BOM radars built in Australia? If not then why? Then you don't have to rely on technicians coming from O/S

I'm interested to know if the American dopplers are built in the states or if they come from overseas as well.

Lovely sunny day here, waiting patiently for the next system to arrive.
One drop, you're forgetting the price of electricity, every manufacturer uses extremely lots of it (sorry for off topic).

One drop.
They may not build the radars here but surely they should have trained Tech's to maintain and repair them. Not doing so would be like an Airbus going belly up and the airlines having to fly tech's out from France to fix them. The airlines have well trained people to do this and it's disgraceful that the BOM people are not sufficiently trained to do these necessary repairs. Trying to save a few dollars is certainly costing them a great deal more that they have saved.
It's very poor PR from the BOM people that we have not had a word more on this , surely they would have read comments on this sight if not then some of our members who know people in the BOM should ask them for an update and why so long a fix time.fix. frown

You will find cost-cutting is usually made by others who have so many more important things to spend money on than on BOM(read considerable sarcasm into that comment too). Also, I think further comments should be made in the day to day thread.
Cheers
