Lets hope for some coolness all round Dave. Been a long hot summer bout everywhere. Except coastal north east of the state I think.
scattered high cloud kind of day. Not hot. Not cold. Not too bad at all.

The heat never wants to give up without a fight Derek. Just under 4 weeks till equinox. Throw in inertia and heat generally has to toss in the towel for a awhile my 3rd week of April. Generally speaking.

Yeah, Knot summer really goes to around March 21st, or the Equinox as you suggested, so more heat to come.
Looking at 36-38C for the last day of Feb/ 1st day of March, so the heat is going to die hard, esp away from the coast.
Depends if we go back to a wetter pattern, last year the March was not that hot from memory, after a record hot February in most centres - so that was unusual.
Not sure what the long term forecast for March is this year.
April is too far away to think about right now, but a La Nina for autumn would be ideal.
The shoulder seasons seem to be getting shorter these days too.

Places like Tocal and Williamtown haven't recorded a 30 in May June or July. Nobbys hasn't either in those months plus August. Obs Hill only has June and July without a 30. Who knows. We might need to only name two seasons down the track. Sautumn and Sprinter or something like that.
Looks to be a warm one coming up. A little bit of high cloud and gossimer breeze

On the Tablelands we USUALLY notice quite a change by early or mid March, mainly a rarity of 30's and the nights down around 10 to 14 degrees mostly.

Local weather lore is that Anzac Day is around the time of our first frost.

Our night temps start to drop noticeably over the coming few weeks, after the Equinox the drop becomes even more pronounced.

Coastal areas lag us heaps in becoming "Autumnal" - and mainly it's the nights that are the major factor.

This coming Sunday looks a tad interesting for precip.

That "band" of rain in the models for the weekend of the 3rd seems to have disappeared - another mirage.

However looking at the trends in 15 day ECe & long term GFS, I'm getting more hopeful of better precip than recent times.

Fingers & toes crossed - a lot of areas need a damned good drink.

So it looks Penrith will absolutely smash the hottest summer on record this year. If the forecast holds over the next 5 days December, January and February will all break their Avg Max records with January being the hottest of any month on record.

It has also been incredibly dry to go with that heat, thankfully we haven't had too many high winds to go with that heat which has meant the bushfire threat has remained relatively low here in the Lower BM's.

Access is very bullish on some big rain developing straight after this weekends event. Thursday/friday/saturday next week.

GFS and EC not really interested.

GFS has won most of the battles over the last 6 months....so it will be interesting to see who wins this time.

Would love it to come off.

Still nasty here and I suspect just as bad around davidg area too.

Penrith's is a hot place for sure. Urban development likely plays some part in the heat there. But a red hot summer nonetheless which ever way you slice it.

Norah nearly 30 again. I just don't buy it that has often been warmer there this summer than a place like Gosford or the Cooranbong site. Just seems too warm.

I didn't think so,Homer,it is a pity an ECL wouldn't develop from the Upper Low up there then move south down the coast,I have seen that happen before.

Which is why i don't understand the development in Penrith. I guess it comes from the inner city types who live in summer temperature consistently 7-10C cooler than Penrith.

Development should be occuring closer to the coast (which of course it is as well) for greater livability and quality of life.

But yes, regardless of urban developement, changing climate etc...Penrith is just a hot place. Geographically.

Anyway pay me no heed grin Just having a whinge after another annoyingly hot and dry summer.

What's with the Sunday forecast? They're going for 10-20mm in Penrith (60% chance?)

I guarantee tomorrow that will be 1-5mm (50%)

Then on sunday it won't rain grin

I wonder what difference Badgerys creek airport will make for its temps. surely massive concrete runways would cause lots of UHI effect. Not to mention the future developments in that area around the airport.

Sea gales today. It's actually been fairy sunny, with filtered sunlight through thin high cloud at the moment.

The new OH site has been much warmer than the old one the last couple of days - temps for the 20th-21st:

Old: 18.1 - 25.0; 19.0 - 26.5
New: 17.8 - 27.8; 18.8 - 28.7

Not much difference in minima but that's a huge difference in maxima. Exposure to the NE quarter seems to be the key, it doesn't just feel a lot cooler in an exposed position. Even when I was working in the City, Sydney's official maxima in Summer always seemed ludicrously low.

Retained heat from concrete etc delays it radiating by storing the heat. So nights in a concrete jungle are warmer for longer. That radiated heat in my opinion, gets drawn towards the western edges of Sydney where it mixes with the humdity robbed warm air flowing down the side of the barrier escarpment on nor wester days. It is unable to escape and creates a higher threshold which the daytime heating begins from. This is just my view. Don't know if any scientific validity to it. But scientific validity in these media driven hysterical times don't seem to be important anymore, so I may as well join the club with my ravings he he

Wow, how nice would it be to get a system hugging our coast here similar to what SE Qld/NE NSW is getting atm?
