Severe Weather Warning
for DAMAGING WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL

For people in parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.

Issued at 10:52 am Monday, 26 March 2018.

Weather Situation:
A trough extends from Ex Tropical Cyclone Nora to the North Tropical Coast near Cairns and is expected to move slowly south during this morning. Areas of heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and damaging winds are expected along coast and near coastal ranges within the warning area through Monday.

6 hour rainfall totals of 100 to 200mm over previously saturated ground are likely within the warning area, with some locally higher totals remaining possible.

Thunderstorms occurring in the warning area south of Ingham may produce damaging wind gusts.

A Flood Watch and various flood warnings remain current for coastal catchments between Townsville and Cape Tribulation.

Locations which may be affected include Townsville, Palm Island, Ingham, Cardwell, Tully and Rollingstone.

In 24 hours to 9am this morning Port Douglas recorded 593mm, Black Mountain recorded 457mm and Kuranda Railway Station recorded 403mm.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEST Monday.

had about 60sec of that really hard 100mm per hour rain, rest of the yellow cells 1km west of me. still got steady rain going though.

However it is expected to move south this evening and strengthen causing an increase in rainfall. Areas of heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding are expected to develop again this evening along coast and near coastal ranges within the warning area.
6 hour rainfall totals of 100 to 200mm over previously saturated ground are likely to develop within the warning area this evening, with some locally higher totals possible.
A Flood Watch and various flood warnings remain current for coastal catchments between Townsville and Cape Tribulation.
Locations which may be affected include Townsville, Palm Island, Ingham, Ayr, Cardwell, Giru, Alva Beach and Rollingstone.

Initial Minor Flood Warning for the Ross, Bohle and Black Rivers
Issued at 3:11 pm EST on Monday 26 March 2018

Flood Warning Number: 1

River level rises are occurring on the Ross, Bohle and Black Rivers following heavy rainfall during Monday. Minor flood levels are possible at Mount Bohle during Monday evening.

Rainfall totals of up to 100 mm have been observed around Townsville in the 6 hours since 9am Monday. Further rainfall is forecast to continue across the warning area for the remainder of Monday and into Tuesday.

Ross River:
Small river level rises are occurring in the Ross River at Alpin Weir during Monday.

The Ross River at Aplin Weir is currently at 0.31 metres and steady. The Ross River at Aplin Weir will remain below the minor flood level (1.00 m) during Monday.

Bohle River:
River level rises are being recorded along the Bohle River during Monday afternoon.

No observations are available from Mt Bohle at this time. Based on upstream observations, river levels are expected to be rising at Mt Bohle. The Bohle River at Mt Bohle is likely to exceed the minor flood level (4.00 m) Monday evening.

Black River and Bluewater Creek:
Small rises are occurring during Monday afternoon on the Black River and Bluewater Creek. Further rises are likely during Monday evening as rainfall continues.

Flood Safety Advice:
Remember: If it's flooded, forget it. For flood emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. For life threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Ex-tropical cyclone Nora is located 150km northeast of Normanton, currently near stationary, and is expected to remain slow moving in this area until Tuesday, when it should move westward over the southern Gulf of Carpentaria. A trough connecting Ex-tropical cyclone Nora to the North Tropical Coast is causing heavy rainfall over the warning area.

Heavy rain, which may lead to flash flooding, and locally damaging winds, with peak gusts in excess of 90km/h, are possible about parts of the Peninsula, Gulf Country, North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts for the remainder of Monday and early on Tuesday.

Locations which may be affected include Port Douglas, Cairns, Townsville, Palm Island, Ingham, Ayr, Cardwell, Giru, Alva Beach, Rollingstone, Normanton, Croydon, Georgetown, Einsliegh, Karumba, Delta Downs Station, and Dunbar.
6 hour rainfall totals of 100 to 200mm over previously saturated ground are likely to develop within the warning area this evening, with some locally higher totals possible.
