Happy Birthday Chookie!

Yes it should stick around until at least this evening.

I would guesstimate we've had 130-140mm here in BG. Will check at 9am.

Ross River Dam has apparently passed the 50% mark according to the TCC on the radio this morning. Their website hasn't updated yet to reflect this though.

There has been 300-500mm recorded in 5 days in some parts.

how could that not justify a severe weather warning?

Nellt Bay had 229mm in 6 hours today.

Because thats normal for tropical systems. I always felt SWW should be issued for unusual events but events like this are not rare occurrences in the tropics. With a SWW I always expect something extraordinary to happen but tbh this is just the kinda weather ive come to expect at this time of year up here. If this event happened in SEQLD or other southern areas I believe the SWW is needed but having a SWW for a normal tropical systems seems unneeded imo. I just personally dont class this as severe weather for this location.

I'm sorry but this has been the biggest event we have had in half a decade.... Just 20km to your south at bluewater there has had 260mm since 9am. What do you want a little hole in the SWW map for your house? there is 48 hour totals of almost 400mm. There have been houses with water through them. If we dont use SWW for this we are never going to use them.

There is no need for snarky remarks however as of this morning after readong the news. I now change my opinion that the SWW was justified in the whole region.

That would be awesome if it is at 50. May reach 100 yet.

Major Flood Warning for the Bohle River and Flood Warning for the Ross and Black Rivers and Bluewater Creek
Issued at 8:49 am EST on Thursday 1 March 2018

Flood Warning Number: 8

Rises to the major flood level are possible at Mt Bohle during Thursday afternoon.

Rainfall totals of up to 360 mm have been recorded across the warning area in the 24 hours to 8:30 am Thursday, with the highest totals recorded in the Black River and Bluewater Creek catchment areas. Further heavy rainfall is expected during Thursday.

Particularly heavy rainfall has been recorded over parts of the Bohle River catchment in the last two hours.

Ross River:
River levels are generally steady across the catchment area.

The Ross River at Aplin Weir is currently at 0.41 metres and steady. River levels are expected to remain below the minor flood level (1.00 m) during Thursday.

Bohle River:
Moderate flood levels are rising along the Bohle River.

No observations are currently available from the Bohle River at Mt Bohle station. The river level may reach the major flood level (7.00 m) on Thursday afternoon, based on the expected continuation of heavy rainfall over the next few hours. This level is higher than the March 2012 flood peak (6.76 metres), but below the February 2007 record flood level (7.55 metres).

Black River and Bluewater Creek:
Major flood levels are rising in the Black River, whilst river levels are falling on Bluewater Creek.

The current level of around 8.00 metres on the Black River is approximately 1.4 metres below the record flood level recorded in January 1998 (9.38 metres) but close to the February 1991 flood peak (8.25 metres).

Flood Safety Advice:
Remember: If it's flooded, forget it. For flood emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. For life threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Current emergency information is available at www.qld.gov.au/alerts

Next Issue:
The next warning will be issued by 12:00 pm EST on Thursday 01 March 2018.

120mm until 7am. The gauge had 55mm in it at 11pm, and there was very little rain between 11 and 3, so the rest fell mainly between 3 & 6 this morning.

Inedible news about the dam level! Townsville's water woes have eased somewhat for now. It will surely go up some more yet too. smile

Just did the drive from CT this morning, wow! Water everywhere! The Burdekin is
raging, so is Reid River. At Mingela it looked like an inland sea. Quite a long stretch there is under water. It was pouring rain there at the time I went through.
