Hi Flowin , Yes i agree i can get a cheap smaller barometer from Bangood .Be fun to see the different and changes in the storm glass.Apparently the storm glass was used on ships in the early days as well.

Doug, I am getting more intrigued by the storm glass. Wiki suggests a reference that the only influence is temperature, but also quotes an earlier promotion by Admiral FitzRoy which quoted an influence as wind direction. I find wind a bit hard to believe, but an influence probably beyond temp, say maybe humidity or dew point may be plausible. Despite what Wikipedia says overall about these "devices are now known to have little value in weather prediction but continue to be a curiosity".... The curiosity of what causes changes in the crystallisation is an interest.
