Sun's out-guns out here. Wind is still coolish, some heavy stream showers earlier.

I'm not sure if I misinterpreted but I actually took LRH's claim about the drought being over as sarcasm, so didn't read anything else into it. Nor did I take it seriously, because clearly, the drought in the Hunter is far from over.
Pretty sunny here now and has turned out a better day than I expected.
Still only 22.7 deg's, but fairly windy.

You could be right Homer, but there are emoji's for sarcasm or even lol at the end.

I suppose there is only one person that knows if its sarcasm or not!!

Getting some nice solid drought breaking drizzle now!! poke laugh

God Sydney's weather is just dead boring these days .... cant remember the last time I heard thunder in the southeastern suburbs, like so predictable , change comes thru Sydney early morning , everything explodes north of the Hunter OR change comes thru at the right time but explodes off the coast 100 - 150kms offshore .... this pattern of rain streaming from the north west of the country like a funnel over SEQ has been like that for a month with interesting weather going below NSW or above as mentioned, even NZ has had a more interesting time when it comes to severe
weather ...its a joke!!!

It has been dry most of the day here. Had a quick shower 5 minutes ago. A sunny break here and there and plenty of gusty winds.

Im all for positivity around the weather, or rain or potential of drought breaking rains or whatever. But Im also a cut and dried realist too, so I'm not going to try to force something into a box if it doesnt fit. Clearly this season hasnt gone to plan as to what we might expect from a weak la nina. But for the Quidge it could have been quite different.

It may be on the turn or it may be just a blip....we had some good rain last March also, but it was one of only couple of months last year where there was any decent rainfall and we have continued into drought.

I dont want to be a pessimistic or nasty gringo, but we have to call these things when its reality not wishful thinking.

LRH, only had to say, do you recon this would break the drought guys? or... this rain would be helping to break the drought in the Hunter and we would all agree with such a statement, but a straight claim like that is just silly at this point....I dont think it was sarcasm, just trying to fit something in a box that doesnt fit.

La nina might still sort us out like it did QLD and then you can have your moment...

I've said it a couple of times but will say it again.
This drought WILL break, and when it does, it will be from flooding rains.
It's just the nature of the cycle, and has happened so many times in my lifetime. This drought, like all previously, is seriously painful for everyone.

Yes,it will take a flood Homer to break the drought,we might be luck an ECL coming into winter might be the thing to do it.

There have been on and off showers here in the last couple of hours, blowing in on the SE'er, after a fine, mild to warm, windy and partly cloudy day. Chatswood has had 4mm, mostly between 5 and 6PM. There will hopefully be more showers overnight, but this stuff doesn't normally penetrate far inland, often not even reaching Western Sydney.

EDIT. the rain band is now working its way through Sydney's West, so it'll drop a couple of mm there. There doesn't seem to be more incoming for Sydney for the time being.

I had 9.3mm so far this afternoon/evening most of that falling in the last hour or so.
Its been a rather strange afternoon, whilst its been raining no wind whatsoever, now that showers have passed its quite breezy and some what clear to the south east.

I wouldn't be surprised if I double that rainfall figure by tomorrow morning.

Very mild day with a 24C max, nice and pleasant.
Might become strangely similar to last year, a mild and moderate March after an absolute bell ringer of a February and a summer.

Except less rainy frown
On that note once the troughing pattern over the Tasman swings our way, we should see our rainfall come back around strongly end of march and early April. My theory may be a bit controversial but the high Tasman ssts have been really detrimental as the heat has been sitting near new Zealand and bringing everything to them. Really hope you guys up in the Hunter get something soon though, sadly it will have to be destructive like it is always is here.

We are a week out of our Ozzie summer. Why would you think it would be any different?
I never expect consistently cooler nights until late March/early April, and even then, maybe later.
Come on lad. Give the change of seasons some time!!
