That's the one, I remember it well, I was just a kid then living in Blacktown and I remember running in and asking mum is that snow? it was, it didn't settle it was just light flurries and didn't last long.

The comment made about the drought being over was more in the sense that it's in the process of being over. Ofcorse they don't break completely overnight, or in a few days, however these daily doses of onshore showers will build the moisture over time before the significant event/flood arrives.

53mm across a few stations in the central/upper Hunter to 9am will help a little bit. You're probably better off getting these gradual falls that seep in than a bigger event like inland QLD that just washes the topsoil away. This is also the 4th consecutive day that parts or the majority of the hunter received significant daily falls.

A few nice looking clouds about this evening, might even get a mm or two in the gauge.

Another mild day with no aircon needed, surprisingly made our forecast max of 26C, thought it was similar to yesterday.
Looking good for the next few days, not too hot.

Yeah I had heard about the forecasts of a cold winter at work, obviously from the sources mentioned.
Haven't had a cold winter in many years, we only have a handful of frosts a year at home (if that), will be interesting to see what happens.
Low level snow is not something I have ever seen, and not a snow chaser per se, but would be if that ever happened.
It has snowed in Upper Hunter places like Scone before, but it is still a rare event.

Seen plenty of snow on trips. Never skied though. It is a beautiful thing to see Derek. Up close or from afar.
Those were the days Eddy. I remember visiting Blacktown in 1975 after a deter from NSW schoolboy surfing championships at Narrabeen.
Seemed like a different planet to a young, blond haired, blue eyed surfie from the coast.

Random moderate shower. Shows up as a tiny light blue speck on radar. Definitely unexpected. Wish we got hit by a chunkier one as it's going to be short lived. frown

Back to light drizzle now.

I don't recognise the place now, it was half suburbia and half rural in the day!!

This morning started of clear but has since clouded over, south east breeze blowing but not overly strong.

It's been a fairly sunny morning so far, although the satellite shows a fair bit of cloud out to sea.

The weather seems to have got into a bit of a rut again, with a succession of mild, partly cloudy days with the occasional light shower, temps plodding along with a daily range from the high teens to mid 20s, extending as far as the models go.

Quite warm with sunny breaks now.
Sounds like boring weather ahead Steve. And moisture off the agenda again. Terrible when we don't get good follow ups.

It was a very pleasant day today, probably sunnier than expected. If it's not going to rain we might as well have sun. OH nearly reached 27, the same as Penrith, with most of Sydney maxing out around 25-26. Bankstown seems to be the hot spot at 28.

Now that we are in a SE'ly pattern, the BOM is consitently undershooting the forecast for OH by 1 or 2 degrees, instead over overshooting as they often do when the NE'er dominates. There's been little variation in maxima there, from 24.9 to 27.3 in the last 10 days.

EDIT: Looks like more classic Autumn weather for the next week, with maybe a brief but significant cooldown after that. Eddy - it looks like Sydney did put on a great day for your visit.

Bit of a chill in the air last night/early morning, can smell a change of seasons in the air. Not unusual for this time of year though.

Quite warm still. And remaining that way over night. Not long till equinox now. And after that the odd 30+ can still occur but all going well won't see another till October or something.

I'm not getting much of an autumn vibe, I'm afraid. Yes, it's cooler than the summer that was and I feel that it's much cooler but nowhere near to what I would perceive for this time of the year, especially considering it's typically wetter during these months heading toward winter (not discounting the fantastic rain recently).

According to Bankstown AWS March 2018:

Maximum Average This Month - 27.3C +1.0C
Maximum Long-term Average- 26.3C

Minimum Average This Month18.4C +2.1C
Minimum Long-term Average16.3C

Total For 2018 - 72.0mm12 Day(s)
Average Rainfall To Mar 301.7mm 33.4 Day(s)

Hoping during at during these statistically wetter months up until end of June there's a wonderful delivery of liquid gold soon in the rain gauges near and far that need it. smile
