Well spotted Derek smile

Ave Caesar smile

Like a few regions - this weekend could threaten our all time March max record.

I certainly see a an av min record under threat at Nobbys this month.
Nearly all Hunter obs sites approaching 30 or already 30 and above. Very warm. Wind picking up too. Kind of a low level heatwave I think once weekend factored in.

I think a reaching 40 in the Hunter region is probable on the weekend. Not to mention western Sydney

Looking at the satellite picture and the southerly would be a lovely sight somewhere about 50-100km offshore Jervis bay with a very classic roll cloud look. Pity it does not seem to extend to land.

There could be a chance of a sneaky flickering shower tonight. Plenty of surface moisture around plus a late southerly may just see something.

The Southerly passed through Kiama around 3:00PM. Most of Sydney reached 34-35, some stations might go a bit higher.

hit 34.5 here. Big banks of cumulus to the west now and small storm to the north. Super muggy. This season is certainly dying hard. Watering again, dams dropping. Quidge lurking.
Might be a season that turns on a dime. Air con one day, woodfire the next.....

A bit unexpected, at least this soon: rain, big drops.

Change has reached Bellambi. Will reach coastal Sydney in about an hour.

I see a red cell just popped up in the Ryde area, moving East.

A lot of turkey towers going up earlier, one has manifested into a thundery(?) shower aimed for the northern beaches.

Change coming through a bit earlier than forecast as well.

Hopefully some thunderstorms as well, approaching 35 degrees at Holsworthy and Bankstown, probably have to walk home to.

It's sometimes weird how these southerly changes work.
It reached Bombala at 10.30 am this morning, and is now pushing through southern Sydney, yet I'm in Kalkite at the moment (Jindabyne) and it still hasn't reached here yet. Still have warm westerlies. It can't be far away, surely.

Wow what a change, Holsworthy has dropped from 34.9 to 26.7 with the southerly that's what you call a buster.

There is a reasonable chance of record breaking heat this Sunday over NSW.

We still have a faint flush of green from rain in late February despite no rain of note since. With warmth persisting to Monday and little prospect of rain until near the end of March the green flush will likely be burnt off. Without good rain soon, we're facing a grim winter. It won't be long before the first frost comes - it went down to to 4.4 last Sunday morning.

I don't recall a season like this. Whenever it looks like an ESE to SE stream will develop, the highs quickly ridge up the coast, starving us of moisture. On top of that, there have been a dearth of troughs in easterly flows. This seems to be the worst non-El Nino season I've ever known.

I think it's safe to say the March record will probably be broken on Sunday for Obs Hill. The forecast is 38C (even hotter at 39 for Wollongong) and 925mb temps are 31C over Sydney so that's almost guaranteed 40, if not 41C. It hasn't reached 40 in March before. The record is 39.8C in 1983.

WB WR.
Certainly doable at Obs.
Penrith site has a 40+ in 1998 (el nino). Richmond has only hit 40 4 times. 3 times at old RAAF site 1938, 1965 (Strong El Nino), 1983 (Huge El Nino) and 1 time at current site in 1998 (huge El Nino). I am surmising 1938 also El Nino period. Records only back to 1950 I think. So in a non El Nino period we potentially going to get smacked with March heat that occured in tail end of El Nino events. Crazy

It's all daves fault. He tempted the beast grin

Will penrith break the 1998 march record?? I am leaning towards yes. I think the extra urbanisation and concrete structures will create enough heat in the area to tip it over.

The target is 40.6 Should be breakable.
