Change appears to be through the Illawarra. Winds are strong there and temps are down.
Still hot here in Sydney Town and winds are calm. Change should be through soon.

Twin changes. That's interesting and unusual. The SW'er is now on the Central Coast. The SE'er is working its way through Sydney. No big temperature drop yet, but it's windy and no longer feels like an oven outside when is was 33 with no wind.

It would be a strange temperature map on the coast. Pockets of heat like OH until a little while ago, places where one or both changes has arrived, places with sea breezes and areas experiencing inversions in calm conditions under clear skies (e,g, Cooranbong).

And, as I said earlier this week, we are only two weeks out of summer.
Sure, it's uncomfortable,
But geez, we are still going to get some hot days at this time of year.
I'm just looking forward to some cooler weather, which will come soon.

Another bloody tropical feel night. For most of the night anyway. Currently only 4 degrees above average.

There's a few days left in summer by my reckoning. smile

If you Google "start of Autumn", for example, it'll tell you Wed. 21 March: the Autumnal Equinox.

I've been using the solstices/equinoxes (astronomical calendar) to mark the change of seasons for years; it seems a better overall fit to actual conditions than the (meteorological) calendar definition. e.g. "Indian Summers" in March.

The three weeks difference is quibbling, but I feel more comfortable using a geophysical marker than a (derived) administrative one.

Im pretty sure that's how northern hemisphere countries observe there seasons? e.g. America/ Canada / UK ? Unsure why we have never followed suit? However if you look at average temps for most capitals, the hottest 3 months are Dec, Jan, Feb.

Nice cool morning here, down to 15 degrees.
Even colder at Goulburn Ap with a min of 3.3 degrees.

The thing is also, this late in the season you know that it will probably be one of the last occurrences of major heat. I would be rather surprised if we saw any more 35+ degree days.

Cloud dissipating. More of a bank of high mist.

Perplexing, not sure why we topped out at 39c but there you go. I'm not complaining!

Sure was hot last night though, only really cooled off around 1am

My top temp yesterday was 33.2c, it was a mostly calm day, one minute you would feel a Norwester breeze and the next it was a Noreaster it was that type of day.

South-west change coming through now.

Bring on the rain and storms now!!

Apart from the heat the surf was pretty good over weekend.

Four young people had to rescued by long board riders at Warilla Beach about 3.30pm.

What gets my goat going is that this Dad (if that's an appropriate term) who had muscles like he lived in a Gym and tats to rival an outlaw biker - in fact google drug king pin and you have a match, brought his 3 daughters (looked about 9 to 16), down to the beach and setup and swum just 150m from the flags.

The surf was smaller in afternoon, but a long period ground swell. All Ok for first 30 minutes on a sand bar just metres from a nice rip, a couple of sets and they are off the bank in the rip and sailing out at a rate of knots. Severely in trouble, the rip was like a set of rapids.

Whats also amazing is Goulburn Ap went down to 3c this morning. Imagine having a mid 30's day followed by a frosty morning.

Warm oceanic winds. Forgetting what a cool breeze feels like.
@Derek. Scone above 30 per your comment bout another crack at record. People must be thinking the desert has moved 1500km south east and they are on the edge of it

I was actually there at that time and did not see it!! Agreed the surf was brilliantly clean there and a nice mixture of left and right handers.

Has only reached 35 here today. Glorious weather really, dead still, blue skies....(maybe moreso in January though)!

Stormy we could be on mate. Models are tightening up a bit around the Hunter. Could finally be the runoff rain we have been waiting for. I will take the full 200 please.
