I must be going blind. Norah's 22.9 at 9am were it to not go under it by 9am tomorrow would be just under the 23.1 highest min at current site. But an even warmer 23.4 exists at old site. Another shot Sunday morning and Monday probably

Well hopefully the coast and Lower Hunter will get a good drop, to follow up from a good February. (though still only average long term)
The Upper Hunter though looks like getting very little out of this system, and it is virtually still drought up there.

Might need a new thread for upcoming rain. EC has over 100mm for central coast and Newcastle Wednesday. That's crazy!

Another Sunday, and another warm one coming up. Winds are NEly along the coast now but GFS suggests winds should turn NNWly along the coast this arvo. I reckon these cold fronts that are dragging heat down are a good sign of the winter to come. In March we don't often get weather from the west like this and the cold fronts should continue to move north.

And nearly April. Still over 22 here. Best resign oneself to a warm April too. The tropics will see to that.

Dunno what the long term forecast is for April, but certainly expect it to be above average as per recent years.
Looks like a cool down and showers on the very last day of March, so there is some hope of a moderate month too.
In any event, heat in April is usually fairly low grade compared to summer anyway.
Today heading for 33C, more than hot enough, and will need the aircon after lunchtime I would would say.

On the way to 29 this side of lake. Wind has really picked up. Unless it gets more west in it I think it will easily exceed forecast.
I see no virtue in these kind of setups at this time of year. These mostly dry fronts coinciding with a re energised tropics is a recipe for way above normal heat and potential disaster As we have already seen at Tathra.

It see we've moved back into the D2D thread.

The forecast for Sydeny has been updated to include the 'chance' of a thunderstorm (also Penrith).

The NW'ers are firmly established now, even on the coast. It's about to hit 30 at the Airport, around 27-29 across Sydney.

P.S. for what it's worth, the BOM's outlook for April is cooler and wetter: BOM outlook

Yes Airport has hit 30 Steve. Not far off 30 here now. Do you know which Syd site has the late record for hottest day in final week of March? Could get there today maybe. Thinking Penrith or Richmond but could be wrong. Damn this heat.
I seriously think they just flip a bloomin coin at the Bureau

I don't think any records are at risk today. The air mass is cooler than last week's (850 temps 19 vs 24) and cloud is moving in.

I don't know the late March records but I think April 4,,1986 gives an indication of how hot it can get at this time of year: Richmond, Bankstown and Parramatta respectively 38.2, 36.9 and 37.0.

Also March 28, 1940 at OH, an amazing 38.7.
Also March 30, 1923 at OH: 37.6, just short of the century. That was Good Friday. It was 'interrupted' by a lunch time Southerly.

So in spite of its tenacity (34.2 - it was shaved by a couple of points in 2016), I've always thought Sydney OH's April record 'soft'. It just needs one of the hotter air masses that we get at this time of year to coincide with a Westerly component strong enough to hold out the sea breeze until late afternoon, plus no Southerly before then.

P.S. About 31-33 across Sydney.

Perisher is currently 6.3 and Thredbo is 4.7 deg's.
Yet, on this link, http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/observations/nswall.shtml it says that their current lows are 9.8 and 8.6 respectively.
Can someone please explain how the AWS's work? It not the first time I've noticed this.

A 130 km/h gust at Thredbo this morning is pretty impressive.
