i dont usually get frustrated with a SE flow, as it part n parcel of living here we dont get much with that flow. But when you look at that NE fetch off the coral sea, its 20km too far north and mixing with that flow - its frustrating. 20km east and today turns into a 50mm today easily. Just missing out.

Major Flood Warning for the Herbert River
Issued at 4:25 pm EST on Thursday 8 March 2018

Flood Warning Number: 8

A major flood peak similar to February 2009 flood levels is expected at Ingham early Friday morning.

Up to 350 mm of has been recorded over parts of the catchment area in the past 36 hours. Further heavy rainfall is expected during Thursday evening and overnight.

Herbert River to Nash's Crossing:
Rises and major flood levels are occurring along the Herbert River to Nash's Crossing.

No river level observations are available from the Gleneagle Homestead at this time. Based on observations from the Gleneagle automatic station major flood levels are rising at Gleneagle. River levels are expected to remain above the major flood level (9.00 m) overnight Thursday and into Friday.

Herbert River downstream of Nash's Crossing:
Moderate flood levels are rising at Abergowrie Bridge. Rises are occurring downstream to Halifax.

The Herbert River at Abergowrie Bridge is currently at 10.81 metres and rising. River levels are expected to reach the major flood level (14.00 m) Thursday night and remain above the major flood level (14.00 m) overnight Thursday into Friday.

The Herbert River at Ingham Pump Station is currently at 9.17 metres and rising. River levels are expected to exceed the minor flood level (10.00 m) Thursday evening and exceed the major flood level (12.00 m) Thursday night. A major flood peak around 14.75 metres is expected early Friday morning, similar to the February 2009 flood peak.

The Herbert River at Gairloch is currently at 8.69 metres and steady. River levels are expected to exceed the minor flood level (9.50 m) Thursday evening and exceed the major flood level (11.50 m) Thursday night. A flood peak around 12.50 metres is expected early Friday morning.

The Herbert River at Halifax is currently at 4.42 metres and rising. River levels are expected to exceed the moderate flood level (4.50 m) Thursday evening and exceed the major flood level (5.00 m) Thursday night. A flood peak around 5.6 metres is expected Friday morning.

Town is starting to flood. Log Creek is gone, townsville Rd is lapping, Herbert St, lapping. It will be very interesting to see how high it gets. Looking at the forecast, i dont think we'll quite see 2009 levels, but they'll be close.

Herbert River to Nash's Crossing:
Rises and major flood levels are occurring along the Herbert River to Nash's Crossing.

No river level observations are available from the Gleneagle Homestead at this time. Based on observations from the Gleneagle automatic station major flood levels are approaching a peak at Gleneagle. River levels are expected to remain above the major flood level (9.00 m) overnight Thursday and into Friday.

Herbert River downstream of Nash's Crossing:
River levels are just above the major flood level and rising at Abergowrie Bridge. Moderate to major flood levels are rising downstream to Halifax.

The Herbert River at Abergowrie Bridge is 14.20 metres and rising, with major flood levels. The automatic gauge has recently been recording suspect data and manual observations will be added to the web when they become available. The Herbert River at Abergowrie Bridge is likely to reach around 15.25 metres overnight Thursday into Friday. The river level is expected to remain above the major flood level (14.00 m) during Friday.

The Herbert River at Ingham Pump Station is currently at 11.97 metres and rising. The Herbert River at Ingham Pump Station is expected to exceed the major flood level (12.00 m) Thursday night. The river level may peak near 14.75 metres Friday morning. Predictions will be revised as upstream peaks are observed.

The Herbert River at Gairloch is currently at 11.29 metres and rising. The Herbert River at Gairloch is expected to exceed the major flood level (11.50 m) overnight Thursday into Friday. The river level may peak near 12.50 metres Friday morning. Predictions will be revised as upstream peaks are observed.

The Herbert River at Halifax is currently at 5.37 metres and rising. A flood peak around 5.60 metres is possible Friday morning. Predictions will be revised as upstream peaks are observed.

Ingham now isolated, and cut in half. Daylight will be in some pretty intense flooding by the looks. Don't think it will quite reach 09 but the chance is there if it keeps raining overnight.
