I was woken by thunder and lightning around 1:30AM. Moderate to heavy rain was falling. I woke around 3:00AM to more lightning, thunder and rain. It was probably raining between those two times. The WZ radar showed a rainband moving from the NW 'longways' across Sydney, slowly shifting North.

Sydney's North and near the Harbour did well, with 14m at OH, 16 at Bondi, 11 at Chatswood and up to 22 onthe Northern Beaches.

The rain band is now over the Hunter, with Cessnock on 15mm so far.

EDIT: now cloudy but the rain's finished here. It should clear soon.

EDIT2: dark at 7:15AM. Daylight saving continues a couple of weeks too long. It should be ended the weekend before the equinox. It does mean Easter weekend this year is 97 hours, however.

It started raining here a bit after 3am and broke around 730am. Nice solid moderate rain over that period, for 17mm. No complaints about that. This system could have gone either way....quite often they will just fizzle to almost nothing right over us and provide decent falls north and south. This time, I think we did ok.

The rain events are closer together, and they are paying a little each time. I would see these as more standard (average) conditions, and with the blocking high not as dominant, the weather is a bit more dynamic at the moment...which is welcomed.

Nice GR

It has just started to precip here, i don't think it will amount to much, maybe 3-5mm if I'm lucky.

Very dark though.

Here's a snapshot of the rainband on the Terrey Hills radar at 1:24AM this morning.

The rain was streaming down from the NW, but the band gradually shifted Northwards our the next several hours. As storms go, it was pretty average, but this season, beggars can't be choosers.

The 2017/8 storm season here has been a stop-start affair:

- It got off to a good start in late October;
- Took a one month break from early November;
- Got going again in December through to early January;
- Took another month off
- There was abrief a burst of activity on feb 9-10.
- Then nothing for 6 weeks until last night.

----

It's mild and sunny now with light Westerlies, about 22. The coming week looks quite warm, although tonight will be the coolest night in while, down to 15 at OH, 12 in Parramatta.

Great you and Stormy got something Gringo.
Dry for awhile now as the trough moves up the coast. High cloud now with a blustery nor wester. Should swing more west soon hopefully.

Regarding this Bom temp thing. It seems they have a variety of ways of slicing up the clock regarding min and max. Seems confusing as hell to me. Why not pick a 24 hour period on a specific date and just say at the end of it that the lowest the mercury went (yes I know mercury is not used) was such and such and the highest it went in that period was such and such. No confusion. I just checked Nobbys and the max stat was at 6.04am because it was higher then than now. But isn't 6.04am part of 9am yesterday to 9am today stats.
Come on Blair. Help us confused folk out

Cracking day here in Western Sydney. Still pushing into the low 30's this week though and then 35c coming for Friday. March average will come out just under 30c. Getting mighty over this long hot Summer.

Beautiful day here too, even though the wind's picked up a bit.

Sydney OH is tracking close to its warmest average March maximum on record, now 26.9 compared to 27.1 set in 2006. Going by the forecast, it will just miss out. The average minimum will finish close to where it is now, 19.4, which is above the 95th percentile (1 in 20).

So it will go close to being the warmest March on record. I haven't checked other stations in our part of the world but I expect the situation would be similar in the Metro, Illawarra and Hunter.

Nobbys min average is currently about 0.3 of a degree under the 1956 record there of 20.6. Excluding pre 1910 stats (Bom itself says they should be viewed with caution) the av max is 26.2 in 2015. Up until yesterday the av max is currently 24.90 . If forecasted temps stick to the official forecast for the remainder of March than the av min for the month will be 20.29 and the av max will be 25.14. So no record for both. But if temps go above the forecast than a record for averaged min and max is possible. Can't say for sure cause I don't do spreadsheets. Bed sheets yes. Spread sheets no he he

Another warm one. Heck. 26

I noticed latest Obs has started displaying stuff at 20 min intervals and not on the hour/half hour. At least that is the first I have noticed it.

Interesting reading about something I think is so relevant to places like Sydney. About loss of trees and less transpiration in Darwin context.

Nobbys just under the forecast of 28 today. Summer continues

Ended up being a beautiful afternoon here. There was a dew forming on the grass just before the sun went down tonight and you can feel the coolness in the air too, a classic autumn day.

2.6mm from this morning little rain.

A classic Autumn day - the view from Lane Cove Weir early this afternoon:

The river was flowing a few centimetres over the weir following last night's rain.
