Definitely not a summer's day in my books. For temperatures maybe, but the humidity was very low making it nice and autumnal. smile

In fact if today wasn't the perfect day I don't know what is. I would almost say the best day of the year so far.

Observations have been running every 10 mins on Bom radar for a few months now.

I reckon it will be the coldest night of the year for many places. Perhaps here it will be too windy but if it drops I expect a 7 or 8 degree morning.

Yes Wave Rider I also haven't seen any changes I think they have had 10 mins observations from the time they introduced the BOM app.
I'm a little disappointed I was largely missed on last nights rainfall, but this is what i've become accustomed to in this semi-arid corner of Sydney.

So it will go close to being the warmest March on record. I haven't checked other stations in our part of the world but I expect the situation would be similar in the Metro, Illawarra and Hunter.

Not even close here. Will finish off around 0.5c above me thinks, nothing extraordinary.

A classic, sunny, 'autumnal', westerly wind day in the Sydney basin would see maximum temperatures no higher than 22c, followed by a cold night away from the coast with a touch of ground frost in the usual spots.

It reached a warm 28c at Sydney Airport and in no way does that qualify as 'autumnal'.

Much cooler tonight, 10.5C now and may even get below 10C for the 2nd time this year *we had a 9C night way back on the 12th March. Felt quite autumnal late last night as well.
But back to near 20C nights very soon later in the week, so more summerish than transitional season weather. Along with the hot days, so the Indian summer looks like establishing itself again.

More like a late March morning this morning. But as you say Derek it is back to regular programming with string of above av days and nights coming up. Sheesh. Even beginning of April gets in on the act.

Cold morning for many places but not here, though it briefly dropped to 8.6. A fair handful of negative temps around the place too including -1.5 at Marangaroo and -1.7 at Cooma Ap. Even 2.2 at Moss Vale is very chilly.

8c here last night, that sure came out of nowhere! Back to well above average mins to go with our well above average max temps over the next week or so. Not looking like this blocking pattern is going to change anytime soon, we might see things cool off next weekend going off the charts IMO. Maybe.

Pretty cool around Sydney, 14.0 at OH and the Airport, 10/11 in the middle ring and down to 7/8 in the outer West.

At OH it was the coldest since November 9.

There seems to have been a bit of rain about Sydney, even though as far as I could tell yesterday and last night were clear with low humidity. Looking more closely, OH had 0.2mm out of a clear sky around lunch time, then a further 1.8 around dinner time when it was 24 with about 20% humidity and light to moderate Westerlies. I'd think the guage was malfunctioning, but several Sydney sites recorded small amounts of rain, including 0.6mm at the Airport around 10:00AM yesterday.

I am with Rob S on this one. No way 28 degrees at the end of March at the latitude and on the coast at Sydney/ Newcastle is autumnal. Might have been a nice day yesterday. Sorry Eddy. No consensus on this. lol

Away from the the coast the greater diurnal ranges may be more indicative of Autumn in places.

All of those measurements were dodgy.

Clear skies when the gauge ticked over at those sites. If it was 0.2 then perhaps some left over rain was shaken out by the wind or something. Anything more than 0.2 and you have to consider removing those readings. Especially the 2.0 at Obs Hill.

Light frost at home this morning with temp around 0.5 degrees.

Shivered through 12-13C on way to work this morning here in Shellharbour.

Surf at 21-22C would have felt bath like. But it was work for me.

Some cool mins there. The current spread at Bath and Goulb airports is not as great as Walgett's 7.7min to current 29.9 but not far behind. Be interesting to see which inland site gets the cigar for biggest diurnal range later. Ranges in excess of 20 degrees are rarer on the coast but not unheard of. Physics 101. Water has a greater specific heat capacity than soil. It will exchange heat with the atmospheric layer nearest its surface more readily after dark than does dirt and rock, which vomit their heat more readily into the air layer closest to them. If heat capacity was booze, you could say water handles the booze better than soil and rock when the sun goes down
