Totally agree. The nor'easter is not blowing at storm force in the afternoon anymore. Definitely a sign that we are into Autumn.

Astronomically and calendar wise technically past. But if its well over 30 in Sydney west etc you can rave till you blue in the face that it is now autumn. It's still summer like and that's all there is to it.

I count the start of autumn when my crepe myrtle starts changing leaf colour. Which is about April 15th to April 25th.

I think this will probably be early May this year, the heat appears to be unstoppable this year, that cold front in the last couple of weeks was nice, but quickly cast aside by more heat.

35 today forecast for Penrith. That is summer still roaring along unabated. Slightly cooler mornings are a good sign.

In recent years, it feels like autumn starts later. There was an interesting 4 corners documentary recently about farmers noticing this. For example some grape growers are needing to switch to hardier grape varieties due to warmer winters, hotter summers, and autumns starting later.

Also some cherry tree growers, which need chilly winters, noticing crops from warm winters not giving the same output as when their father or grand father was running the orchard.

On the flipside, some crops might do better in the warmth! Tomatoes! Chilli! Watermelon?

Still only 21.2C after 11am, got a fair bit of heating to go to get to the 33C forecast yet.
Certainly won't complain if it does not get there, and stalls in the mid to high 20s.

What goes for Oberon's forecast?! Over-accentuated high and low temperatures, commonly warmer than Lithgow's and Orange's forecast; has been like this for quite a few months now!

Think you might be stepping into doo doo Whaler. Which I am sure you will find out. A certain topic is kind of not kosher if you know what I mean.

Brilliant photos CS22 and happy birthday.

I'm not complaining but I certainly think it feels summer like. With the sea breeze not being as strong that would be a combination oof cooler land temp but also warmer ocean temp in Autumn than we usually get in summer.

PS: Kino there doesn't seem to be any StratoCu yet which is nice. smile

Morham this summer was so bad that my Chilli plants wilted in the heat even though i was constantly watering them. This La Nina just caused prolonged heat waves that's about it, also i've noticed that the SAM has dropped to negative which hopefully means a good southern wet season.

Yeah Knot, I agree with your warning. The final para language of that post is offensive to me, unnecessary and a waste of space.

I dont mind the heat but bring back some heavy rain.before it gets to dry again.once we start getting frosts here, the lovely green grass will soon be brown again.so we will have no water or green grass.
