Capricornia forecast for rainfall has been slashed by BOM overnight but I expect that will change again.

Yeah left the washing out thinking it was going to be raining in the afternoon and evening, as that is what the forecast for today said yesterday lol.

It's showery and drizzly but not really appearing much on the radar.

What do you think it will change to ? Mackay has the forecast now that Yeppoon had yesterday.

I think that because at time of forecast low was still moving west and not SW as predicted but Iím just saying forecasts could change again dependent on movement of low. Lot of variables at play and I think it has started its southward turn now looking at Willis Is radar. Most models agree it will swing SW towards the coast and then SE brushing the coast. But in saying that it will do what it does and could do anything lol.

Morning Bulletin

Ex-tropical cyclone Iris may reform
Gregory Bray by GREGORY BRAY
1st Apr 2018 12:36 PM

THE Bureau of Meteorology is keeping a close eye on the movements of ex-tropical cyclone Iris, with the system expected to impact between Townsville and Yeppoon.

The centre of the system is currently located off Townsville and BOM meteorologist Nicholas Shearer said at this stage there was a moderate chance it could turn back into cyclone around Tuesday.

"We should know by tomorrow (Monday) morning, but most of our models show it will continue moving off the coast midweek," Mr Shearer said.

"It's difficult to predict at this stage what could happen if it reforms

"The system will still have a major impact on communities between Townsville and Yeppoon with large rainfall expected over the next few days."

The other uncertainty around the weather system is if a new cyclone forms whether it will be called Iris again or renamed Owen.

Another cyclone, Josie, has formed off Fiji and at this stage the BOM predicts it will not affect Queensland.

Heavy falls predicted for the Gladstone region today have been downgraded to light to moderate showers of 25-40mm.

I would not believe too much the morning bulletin says. Since being taken over by news corp, it is now just another crappy media outlet.

I was quietly hoping this event would make up for the lack of rain throughout March. It's heading north, though frown

13mm yesterday from showers in the morning. Practically has cleared the area wince, all around Mackay north. She's moved too far north for her to have much of an effect on us. Other than the wind which isn't that strong really. Bring on winter.

That means we are safe now until 2045.

How often has Yeppoon had something like Marcia, was David about the last one before Marcia that caused damage ?

Seems like Mackay northwards is where cyclones usually are and they usually are ex cyclones or just a low if we get anything.

Tc Fran about 1992 was interesting in Emu Park there was a lot of tree damage and a few roofs off. The Eye was to the East of us ,from the back of the house we could see lighting to the east and Heron Island went through the Eye from memory. But just a glancing blow for the cap coast I guess.

I wonder if it is all over for us now.

Be better for us now if it just goes away. These cyclones have done nothing but wreck any chance for rain.

Another cloudy day in Yeppoon where the sun came out for a brief 5mins . This must be surely one of the longest run of cloudy days.

With 20 deg last night and the drop in humidity during the day now it sure feels like April.

Think that's it for rainfall , though you never know.

Nothing extraordinary with temperatures , all the heat seems to be to the south of the continent.

Wonder when the nights will drop in temp just a bit. Supposed to average 18 deg at night in Rocky in April . Maybe later this month.

Days seem smack bang on average in Yeppoon at least but nights seems warmer than usual.

I though SW changes happened in April or maybe not yet ?

Spitting yesterday around midday for a short time and spitting now . Either come down properly or don't rain at all I say. There was also a brief (15 sec shower) in Yeppoon CBD on Wednesday.

Very humid. Feels like we've gone back to November/December. NE winds I see.

Very light breeze. Coils on the patio- soon as wind drops mozzies and sandflies start coming out.

Humidity is even worse today 1.30pm and it's on 80 percent with barely any breeze .

Just had a look at the doona in storage and it's got traces of mould .

Ahh the joys of living on the coast lol.

I have heard reports of up to 60mm of rain falling in that rain event just south of Rockhampton yesterday.

Well that was a pretty poor wet season.
Monthly totals from my own gauge near Rockhampton:

JAN 54mm
FEB 91mm
MAR 11mm

How did everyone else go?

I haven't kept a record but I think probably close to average or just below only because most of the rain was coastal .. Pretty sure more than 11mm in March.

Wish it had been more widespread and included Rocky.

Not much of a breeze on the coast, feels like I'm in Rocky except it is a bit cooler but man the humidity is yuk. Not as bad as the middle of summer and unbearable but it's still noticeable.

20 deg this morning but you can barely feel it with the 94 percent humidity !

Lawn is still growing without rain just from watering it and the dam humidity.

Got the doona out just to get ready for "winter" and it's gone mouldy frown

Also some stuff in the pantry has gone off despite being in a sealed container !

Damn moisture ...

Am also lighting those natural mossie coils .. which work but even trying to light them, is hard when it seems so damp the match is hard to light !]

Got 2 going and they went out so I went out to put a new one in and in that short time I got bitten !!

Sandflies are a pain at the moment , mosquitoes not so much.

No strong breeze on the forecast either.

Maybe.. never know something could come through over winter maybe a day or two of something.

Yeah we have a sandspear. Problem here is everything is beach sand in our area, doesn't hold water .. probably pumping it out and going through pop up sprinklers then going back into the water table lol.

Narrow little storms, good if you get under them. Have heard reports of isolated totals over the past week pushing around 100mm.

I got 20mm today.

It was a lovely day today. Sun was shining. Birds were singing.

I was contemplating some gardening time when my dogs alerted me to trespassers. Young couple walked in to find help. He had decided to drive into the mud puddle in the quarry next door. They needed towing. Luckily for them this middle aged woman has the stuff needed to get them out.

When I got there they are about 10 feet maybe from the bloody deep hole, probably 40 feet deep full of water. Lucky they didn't die today.

Spent the rest of my day and most of my night finding tools for him to fix it enough for them to get home. Hopefully.

So now it won't be till Saturday I get to sit and enjoy the garden.

We ventured out to the beach for a few hours, cracking day out there:

I am lucky to have a lovely neighbour. He was obviously a tad concerned that I had a couple of young sillies at home. Rang in the afternoon to check all was well at home for me then dropped in later just to double check.

I did get a lovely message this morning from the young lass thanking me for 'adopting' them for the day and letting me know they made it home safely even if on the back of a car trailer.

They were really lucky someone was watching over them and they didn't die.

Nothing really to be concerned about, you have a higher risk of being killed by a car.

It was just nice to have someone watching out for me. Not everyone invites total unknowns into their house specially a female alone. If I had thought they were total tossers I would have left them in the bog. grin

My cheeky daughter when I told her I had company said "Well, they will be well fed there". Humpf.

I think winter this year on the Cap Coast will be nothing like last years. Already cooling down now at nights, low humidity. We've had storms, we've had showers, we've had heavy downpours, though no monsoonal floods . But, it's cooled down somewhat from all this moisture in the atmosphere released as rain.

It really has been summer since October 2016. The heat seems to have gone down to NSW /VIC and SA.

Rocky has missed out on the rain in parts, so I'm going to guess winter will be average on the Cap Coast and maybe about the same in Rocky by average i mean nothing out of the ordinary, more typical for that time of year.

I don't remember getting out the blanket in April last year. Last year from memory May and September which normally are the changeover months on the coast where it starts to cool down were still warmer than normal.

Going back 3? years on the coast I remember a 15/16 deg day in winter , 17 deg too during the day and also remember 7 deg nights as well as even Yeppoon still only warming up in late September/ early October not late August .

The other thing I'm wondering, is if we have a long dry spell over the next few months with no rain at all... I wonder if this means it will be hotter .... vs getting say some sort of precipitation over the dry season allbeit small.

Autumn is definitely here, still warm at day but rather cool nights.
Last 3 nights temps 14.3c, 14.6c and this morning 13.7c smile
During the summer months you forget what those type of temps feel like haha. I'm enjoying it smile

Took the dog for the morning walk and thought it was freezing and yet it was only 18 deg lol. BOM forecasts when it gets cool up here at nights don't get it right much.

Interesting Rocky Airport averages between May to September between 11-14 deg at nights, yet it seems it rarely stays that cool every night in May- September if that makes sense. What I mean is looking at that you would think it would sound coldish but with the higher 24 deg or higher day temps in winter there it doesn't seem like winter much.
