All this talk about Australia getting the coldest winter on record and entering a mini ice age all originated from a certain person on the Brisbane Weather Facebook page which media like The Daily Mail and other tabloids picked up, circulated and went viral e.g. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5466309/The-map-Australian-see.html

I'm still at a loss as to why the media listen to these Amateur FB weather pages. Why cant they approach the BOM for opinions? They might get a better accurate answer.

There's no sign of a upper trough until at least the weekend, and there's no sign of convergence, so buggered if I know how these storms and cloud formed this morning.

Hello Gleno71. There is a tongue of coldish air over Brisbane extending south east towards Lord Howe. -13°C at the 500 Hectopascal level (approx 19000 feet)above Bris.

There is a reflection in streamlines at that level over Bis as well.

Convergence can be difficult to see on streamlines at the surface. Speed convergence etc must also be considered ?

Also the 'landbreeze' in the mornings adds to convergence against a southeast stream onto the coast helps.

Absolutely torrential shower here for last 15 minutes. Flash flooding in Buderim. Heaviest rain I’ve seen for a long time, even though will be short lived.

Abandoned work at Capalaba today after an hour and a half due to the rain (mainly light showers, but occasional heavier falls also....no good for doing roofing), get home to Salisbury and barely been a sprinkle on the ground here.

6mm so far this morning.
Constant rumbling thunder for the last little while and that big blob of rain over Caloundra is on it's way out here.

Glad I got all of the camping gear from our extended Easter holiday aired out and packed away yesterday afternoon. Could be a bit soggy around here for the next few days by the looks of it.

Things are quiet on this forum. I'm surprised we don't have a thread started for the showers and rain expected in coming days.

Based on this morning results we might get some nice little totals by the weekend.

Some very heavy rainfall around the Sunshine coast now. If this keeps up, perhaps a flash flood warning might be warranted unless the radar is over reading the rainfall rates.

Lightning just fried our modem and energex trucks just moved in to the area. Bugger any recommendations on the best modem to buy as a replacement with NBN coming in July?

The radar isn’t over reading, definitely some torrential showers. It is a nice change.

I've given up on home broadband and now use my mobile data. Just waiting for Elon Musk to get his satellite internet up and running in a few years time.

Forget the NBN

Meanwhile rainfall rates to the South of Caloundra are in excess of 50mm/h

If you're with Telstra I'd ask for the Gateway Max 2, it works on regular broadband as well as NBN. Ours hasn't missed a beat since we got it.

Thanks for the reply and info, although I don't find -13 "cold" at that level. Normally cold pools are over -20 and above when looking at these charts over the years. Its cleared up a lot compared to this morning, so whatever cold air there was, must of diminished by now.

The Mt Stap. radar outage has started by the looks. Not with Telstra and have three teenagers so really need a good router/modem. The other one was ok but range was limited. Could see friends network 200m down the road but not ours when upstairs.
PS was a very cold breeze here this morning.
