Yep started.
There will probably no daily records for April, but this is like a classic El Nino pattern. (reminds me of March 2002, but of course that was much hotter being March)
It could continue again later in the month as well, even up until Anzac Day and beyond.
The next week maximums are more indicative of late Jan here, which is the hottest time of the year.

Agree - it’s gorgeous. Not hot, not cold. Nights are sticky on the coast though with all these solid DP’s. Min temps a staggering 4c above average atm.

Yeah Kino they are pretty warm on the coast. Out here the nights are probably closer to the average as they've been fairly coolish some nights. This morning was 12.5°C.

It's quite amazing to have such a lack of rain in April though. If there's one month that you can count on regular rainfall it's usually this one.

Glad you started a thread Derek.

Record heat from late March in the Pilbara region of WA continuing into April as well.
Roebourne has already had 44C.
Looks like some of it is finally arriving down here, and heat may be a result of the heat up there.
Although I don't think the record for April, 48.1C at Minnipa SA on 1st April 2016 is likely to be challenged.
This record is just about off the charts for April, in fact I can't see any other record in Australia even remotely near it.

The weather near the coast has been very pleasant, apart from nights that are a bit too warm. Sunny, not too humid during the day, basally no wind until the sea breeze kicks in late morning and then it actually is a breeze, not the sea gale of Summer. Every day a temperature range of about 20-27 on the breezy Harbour headland, probably up to 29-30 where most people live. A sort of tropical island resort in the dry season climate.

-----

On another thread I checked out Sydney's hottest April on record for maxima - 25.6 in 1922. It reached 30 six times (compared to the January average of 3), including 32.8 on the 20th and 31.6 on the 24th. There was only one day that failed to reach 20, the 25th (18.9).

Interestingly, May and the following Winter were average, cold by today's standards. The average maxima in Sydney for May, June and July were 19.5 (an amazing drop of 6 degrees from the previous month), then 17.7 and 16.6. The flip happened around May 7.

Whats the source for Minnipa temp Derek. Bom daily extremes for April has PH and Marble Bar as joint April record holders. According to this

http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/current/month/aus/archive/201604.summary.shtml
43.2 at Onslow in WA on 2nd April was hottest temp for April 2016

Minnipa SA:

http://www.weatherzone.com.au/climate/station.jsp?lt=site&lc=18195

I think it is an anomaly, or an aberrant reading, as no other place in South Australia is anywhere near it either.
Even Oodnadatta's record for April is only 42.1C, Coober Pedy 41.5C.
If Minnipa's record is incorrect, then Marble Bar is the hottest April record.

Good stuff Derek. Marble Bar. You know it holds the world record for number of continuius days 100 and over. Set back in 1923/1924. 160 days.

Another pleasant day here with low level scuddy cloud, varying between 4/8 to 8/8, most of the day, low enough to cover Mt’s Keira and Kembla (roughly about 600m each).

So different to here Kino.
Early morning cloud cleared by about 10 am. It has been very warm, humid and completely clear since then.

I maxed out at 29.4.

I certainly did know about that record for Mable Bar, Knot.
Another little known record, Wyndham in the Kimberley has the world record for consecutive days over 90F (32.2C), at 333 days.

There was some noise a few years back about Mecca breaking the Marble Bar record.

Will have to do some searching when I get time. WMO maybe?

Autumn heat is over for now. Blowing a gale here with 8/8 Sc streaming across the sky. Currently 7°C. 0.7mm from a light shower last night as the cold front moved through. 6.5mm to 9am yesterday. Still very dry though. We'd need 40cm of rain to make up the shortfall.

I've noticed over the years that Nowra and the Shoalhaven area seems to often be the coolest on the whole east coast in a westerly. South of Nowra there's a more pronounced Foehn effect from the Tinderries and the Snowies too, especially around Moruya which is often warmer than here. It will probably get to 27C there today, while it will probably only get to 25 here and 26 in Sydney.

What is the elevation/altitude at your side of Porters Retreat? 1,208 m AMSL here.

Yesterday's line of storms stretched from the coast around Newcastle in a northwesterly direction all the way to the Queensland border! Never seen anything like that before. Amazing!

Wave rider Re: your Nowra comment .I have noticed this for several years as well. And today is a classic example ,it's currently 19c in Nowra in a strong to galeforce westerly, nearby ulladulla and Jervis Bay is 20c, whereas Bega sits on 25c and Moruya/ Narooma around 24c. The metro is mostly in the mid 20s as well. We only maxed around 21c, cool compared to recent weather, but still close to mid Autumn average. Meanwhile the Tablelands must be enjoying the much cooler weather, only 13c in Canberra today, nice!

And thank you to those who commented on my video in the other thread, and letting me know about the error as well,I shall fix that cheers!!
