Observatory Hill has just had it's third rain-free day so far this month and only its 6th since August 12, so rain has been recorded on 26 of the past 32 days. Even given that a couple of the 0.2 readings might be dubious (e.g. that for Friday 12th fell out of a fairly clear sky around lunchtime Thursday), that's quite an extraordinary run of rain days.

It hasn't been all gloom. Sunshine hours for September are tracking around 7 per day, which would only be slightly below average for Summer.

Was a fine spring day to day. Nothing exciting weather wise. The wind went onshore early and kept temps in check. Lot of arvo Nor Easters past few days. The wind has picked up now. Could be quite unsettled day tomorrow with mid 20's tipped.

The models are once again looking fairly good for storm development up until early afternoon on the coast, which is not really ideal timing. On the plus side however is that there won't be much of a cap at all which means storms should have no problem flaring up before the dry air comes. The coast should do best in this setup.

Morning gloom has cleared rapidly. Wind has got onshore now from NE and if it stays there I cant see Nobbys getting to bom forecast of 27.

I think the westerly surge that is meant to come this arvo should blow away the NE'er so it might actually get to 27C behind the dry west/north west'ly change. Should be a nice afternoon smile

Very humid atm, it has a stormy feel in the air. Clouds from the north are absolutely racing across the sky.

Morning all!! smile

Was away from work yesterday. Geez RP now I gotta remember another name. smile

Couple of fresh mornings out here, about 1.8 on Sunday and zero yesterday.

Days however - crazy days of all but 20, we hit 19.5 on 2 days and 19 t'other.

Have only lit the fire one night out of the last 4 so that says a bit. House getting to warm up ever so slightly now with windows wide open during the day.

Had a couple of very light spits during last night (clouds not me). Full sunshine here with stormy strands to my east.

Spring is 'ere big time. nights look like staying down in low single digits most of this week though. Don't mind that at all. Cool mornings warm days - heaven. smile

Radar is starting to get busy. As mentioned by others, the westerly surge in the arvo will drop dewpoints rapidly, taking with it any storm chances. Things are looking pretty good until then though. BSCH has a large purple area of "severe storms likely" around the Illawarra lasting until early afternoon.

Feels like February or March out there this morning, dewpoints are as high as 16C in places. Things feel very different this spring compared to last.

Rumbling away here in North Parramatta, it's to the SSW. Radar is starting to look good.

Just had a few pea sized ice pellets make ground. Out of the NE. No squall. No Rumble. Unusual. Just over 20 degrees at Nobbys and just under 20 at Norah.

The westerly looks to be making its presence felt. Are we done here?

Edit: and just like that a cell pops up near Bowral

Same here Dave. Some nice towers going up in the western suburbs in the clear air behind this mornings cloud band. There is still some hope yet before the drier westerly.

Homer.

The f'cast of 25C could be a bit generous, hasn't even hit 21c at obs hill yet.. then it's back to single digits again after the change *yawn* Surely october will give us something spring-like.

Relative humidity is high for here at 54 %. It looks and feels stormy. 17,sunny and very change of season like. A few cells developing south of Belconnen but moving rapidly towards the SE.
But it is the very welcome inland humidity that is exceptional.

Sydney Metropolitan and
Wollondilly/Wingecarribee areas.

Issued at 12:41 pm Tuesday, 16 September 2014.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 12:35 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near the Nattai Tablelands. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. They are forecast to affect Blacktown, Erskine Park and Picton by 1:05 pm and Parramatta, Appin and Menangle by 1:35 pm.

Large hailstones and damaging winds are likely.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep clear of fallen power lines.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.

The next warning is due to be issued by 1:45 pm.

A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Metropolitan, Illawarra and parts of the Hunter, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands and Snowy Mountains districts.

Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 218. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

That storm out towards picton is a doozy. Doppler shows some nice inflow into it and its moving in a different direction to other cells. Dont want to shout 'supercell' just yet but the storm would sure pack a punch
