bummer ashes....how annoying! I can see nice big cauliflowers coming over the watagans with embedded lightning. Perfectly clear ahead of it and the clouds fully lit with the moon. Pretty cool setup. If I were Eddy I recon there may already be some quality pics on the SD card...but I will have to settle for whatever the phone manages! Chances of getting lightning with the phone camera is pretty low....
Looks like the rain might make it here. Give us a rogue 50mm please.

It's been rumbling and grumbling away for a while now, with steady light rain, moderate at times, with the occasional lightning flash. And it feels cold outside. OH has accumulated 5.8mm, it's probably about the same here.

The main action looks to be right on the coastal fringe where there've been falls over 25mm.

The rain is now clearing Sydney to the North. The main storms are now off Lakes Tuggerah and Macquarie, with what looks like light rain inland.

Maitland Airport has only 0.8mm recorded since 9am yesterday, I would guess at under 5mm here, but with no rain gauge cannot be sure. Tocal has 3.6mm for a comparison. Still not much.

I'm happy to downgrade the stats from the three hour event last night south of Nowra. 75mm in total. A nice healthy 25mm/hr is still pretty good, say goodbye to arid April :-)

Not much here overnight, just a few mm. Radar did look good with those cells moving up the coast, but didn't quite eventuate.

And GringosRain, I certainly thought about it, but I was way too comfortable in bed.

Temp dropped as low as 11.9c

OH picked up 9.8 mm to 9:00, with light showers falling within the last half hour. There are still showers about, mostly out to sea.

Chatswood picked up 8 mm.

April is pretty much done and dusted - time for a few stats. It is clear that much of NSW will have had its hottest April on record. The BOM will publish detailed stats in the next couple of days.

OH finished with April min-max averages of 18.0 - 26.1, assuming that today maxes out at 21-23. This is respectively:

* 3.3 and 3.6 above long term averages
* 2.7 and 2.8 above 1981-2010 averages
* 1.1 and 0.6 above the old records.

Total rainfall is 23.2 mm, 18% of average, all falling in the last few days in the current 'event'.

My origional thoughts on this one were correct. Ended up without a drop. totally disintegrated on the Watagans. The coast may have fared better. cold air and ECLs lurking in the forecasts but look to be mostly wind and bluster at this stage and Tasman energy depleting for not much rainfall benefit. Lets hope we can get upgrades this time round.
