Just going by the road signs near me mate. Locally it says 178 km's to Newcastle. I suppose the storms don't drive down the M1 so you are correct. smile

Anyone ready to call it?

TBH, I have been waiting many years for that pic, I saw something similar about 15 years ago, but I only had a cheap point and shoot back then. And I nearly missed out the other night too!!

I've had about 10mm today from those slow moving showers, temperature was mostly under 20c for a large portion of the day, but we did max out at 21c

I never thought it was going to happen from the beginning, there didn't seem to be enough model agreement. So I will call it. Hope I am wrong though. I'm talking about the ECL not happening, there should still be a bit of rain though.

And yes great pics Eddy, love the time lapse too.

I wont call it dead just yet, I think its going to be a very much a coastal strip event. With the best falls falling offshore!!

I've had two storms in the past week or so and both times I have been stuck at work. But I did manage to set the camera up and let it do its thing.
Taken on Thursday night 19th April.

Agree. Offshore, then New Zealand as a high settles over eastern Australia. May see some coastal showers until month end - possibly extending to the ranges, but models point to the usual ridge along the coast, starving us of any helpful rain.

Really dry April here. Haven't even cracked 10mm this month. Pasture looks terrible. Can't believe the persistent lack of SE wind changes this season. As to storms, we seem to be jinxed.

Absolutely. I agree with you.
Just saying that it's easy to say it now 4 or 5 days later when we are closer to the event and models are coming into alignment.
I'm not sure anyone else thought this was a given event either.
It was just a thread started up to discuss a potential event.
Anyhow, it's been fun discussing it, and it'll be fun to just see how it pans out over the next week.

And great lightning shot Eddy.

----

It's always difficult calling events, especially some days out. A few days ago this looked very major. It might still be significant further North. Even in Sydney, it looks like a long period of cloudy, showery weather ('scumtherlies', 'scudtherlies') that will be a big change from what we have been getting recently. Also, it will mark an end to what is, by Sydney standards, a long dry spell (26 days and counting).

Anyway, there is a 'possible future events' thread that I started last year that could be used for significant weather that appears on the horizon in the models before it firms up as an 'event'.
