That much have been on Wed 18th Simmo, as I've got 152.8mm recorded as of 09:00 hrs on the 19th. Unless it happened in the wee small hours of the 19th.

From what I got told it started at around 11pm Wednesday night and went right through till about 8/9am Thursday. Still can't believe I missed that one.

Ahh, yes, from poor memory it was caused from a fairly uncommon (in this latitude),upper level cold pool. It was either this one or one a bit later that killed several cows on the tablelands.

Think you missed my previous post. It started at 11pm on Wednesday and finished around 8/9am Thursday. Cairns Airport was closed till it was over.

That's the one RF. Forgot about those poor cows.

Oh it was lovely and warm today. No wind and a slight look of convection building in the skies in the arvos.

Question, unweather related... does anyone have a link to the smithfield bypass plans? I am keen to see where it will be going... i have seen a few prelim maps but hoping for something more specific!

*** all good I found a link ***

A few clouds around this afternoon, and momentarily the very faintest whiff of moisture.

Couple PDFs at this site.

I think I better not read while you discuss this. TMR keeps promising to seal the remaining 15km of gravel road between Almaden and Chillagoe.
This time it was supposed to commence in September.....but true to form they've delayed it YET AGAIN, with the excuse they need to change the alignment, yet again, or that there's not enough water for the works.
No work started, and no official notifications re why not.

Thanksm yes I looked at that but the maps are dodgy AF! I can't seem to find a proper clear image. But, an overpass at McGregor Road sounds like a big job - bring it on. The northern beaches road infrastructure is simply appauling the population (current) and expected rate of growth.

Anyways, warm overnight here and some high cloud - I feel like the arvo will pick up in warmth smile

I will dread these words...but I am looking forward to the summer smile

So am I. Hoping for some decent rain this time.
The creek has now dried up again at the causeway, although you can still see a trickle at the Bogey Hole and the Weir.

No decent rain here since Yasi, never enough to replenish water table sufficiently. frown

Yeah Ron after most of the school holidays was crap windy weather...a cruel twist of fate...lol

We just got in this evening after a few days down on Hinchinbrook Island..it was beautiful..just magnificent weather with a bit of a Northerly seabreeze kicking up in the afternoon and a weird little squall on Thursday night.........some poor bugga sunk his boat at Macushla on Wednesday night right where we swamped ours a couple of years back...

and this evening the rescue chopper and water police are looking for a fella that supposedly fell off the Cardwell jetty and never came up..?

We saw 3 or 4 crocs last night while fishing in Missionary bay and one the night before was hanging around us for about an hour and came up to within 10 meters of the boat

Update on Cardwell..the dopey guy who was being searched for by the Rescue chopper, the Police, Fire and Rescue, SES, Coastguard and local volunteers was found sitting at home chilling out.. grin

It seems the emergency services pull the trigger a bit quickly at times......a local fella last weekend broke down in his tinny near the mouth of a creek south of Tully and sent a message via facebook for a mate to tow him back to the ramp....imagine his surprise to see the Rescue chopper land next to him on the beach after being sent down from Cairns..

At least the weather switch got flicked over a couple of days ago, DP's gone from like 16, to 20. Meteye has G'vale cranking to 37 on Thursday.

Temp is 23.2 at 02:00hrs.
That's more like it. Shouldn't be too far off from seeing storms building on the Tablelands in the arvo.
But, as usual, 1 in 10 will make it past the 'escarpment storm shield', and get to the coast.

Also, starting to see ants looking to come inside. A bit earlier than most years.

Think you are being a little optimistic with your 1 in 10 there hickory. 😋

Definitely nice to have some higher DP's RF. Has gone from single figures to around 18c here. No more dry lips yay.

Stints of below 30c days are now a thing of the past until the rain arrives.

Ants from just outside the front fence are travelling a bit over 30 metres to get to the water in the birdbath in the back yard. Haven't seen them before. The earth must be very very dry.

I've never had them looking to get inside at this time of year. It's usually late Nov, not long before the wet weather starts.

When Crawly Cruncher was still available, a few squirts and they never tried again for about 12 months. Someone said that some ingredient in it upset the bloody Greenies, so they moaned and bitched to have it removed. Maybe there is another product that will do the same job.
