Move 100km up the road then...you’d triple your rainfall instantly. Can’t blame the weather for your poor local geography.

We have the opposite, we have no real "dry" season, usually Sept,Oct are it, then the rains return.

Yeah right...Thanks for the link ...not...!..(of course it doesn't work unless I pay you)...

You know where you can stick your subscription..and your use of "Higgins" as an expert to garner headlines..

my suggestion, if you really are a journo from the Mackay Mercury, don't use Higgins or Brisbane Weather as sources. try contacting weatherzone for comment if you wanting to speak to real forecasters and meteorologists.

considering that our rain in the so called wet season comes from east and north east flows, the local rain shadow effect means little.
cant remember the last time we had a decent NE stream off the coral sea. so this isn't about geography, it is about the weather.

all models agreeing with a massive area of low pressure forming over SE Australia, firstly upper system and then at the surface, will be the first injecting of cooler, drier air into the tropics. Already seeing min temps next week dropping in the mid teens on our forecast.

Has to be geography Mick, you only have to look at the vegetation once you travel south past Ingham, right thru to Bowen, it's dry, as soon as you get to the whitsunday area it's very green again, Townsville is a beautiful city, but meterogically speaking it ain't great
And here in Mackay we r not that much better, too far south for consistent wet seasons and too far north for decent thunderstorms, however we get good se stream showers

talking about wet seasonal weather. yes tsv is in the dry tropics, the rain shadow only stops the weather from the SE and ESE. as mentioned, we havent had a decent NE flow for years, this is where we get our wet season rainfall from. this is weather, not geography.

As expected the dry air moved in around 11:00pm last night. Should be the coldest morning of the year so far tomorrow.

^^It's Townsville Field Training Area, specifically Fanning River Station. There are coordinates on the page that you can put into Maps to see exactly where it is - 19.7829°S 146.5005°E
