Thanks Guys
A pretty cool day here at times, especially when it clouded over.

Holy moly, awesome captures as always Eddy.

Feels a bit strange getting cooler S'ly winds after such a run of relentless warmth. Bit of shower activity around tonight should mount up to some decent totals on the coast for the next 48 hours it seems. I give it a few more weeks before a nice big NW cloudband covers the continent and dumps a few inches for the inland parts.

Yes Eddy, great lightning pictures. You seem to get much more interesting weather up there.

After being indoors for most of the evening, I was out just now. It felt cool and damp, the roads were wetter than I've seen for a while, although it's probably just a couple of millimetres. It was overcast with a couple of stars visible.

Made a long trip from the South-West Slopes & Plains (round Tumut & Gundagai) to Lake Windamere near Kandos, NSW about Rylstone-Cudgegong in the Mid-Western region of the Central Tablelands. Took about six hrs, alongside driving over the speed limit in excess of 141 km/h at times (upwards 154 km/h). The road from Crookwell to Bathurst/Lithgow was the Tuena-Upper Lachlan road through Trunkey Creek and Hobbys Yards, Blayney Shire and the like.

Some splendid fishing was done at Lake Windamere, I must say! cheers

Quite cloudy for the Central Tablelands over the past few days, but matched rather well with the rugged Mid-Western landscape. Bloody squally, too smile grin

Thanks to the rogue cold pool, least we finished with 20mm for the month, only 100 behind average and 400 behind the year to date. No real swing in the model outlooks either other than what looks to be the first real colder change next weekend, if models hold. Sadly, no rain for us, just stratocrappulus and cold sw—>se’erlies

Just fingers crossed that on Friday that an extra bit of cold air sneaks into NSW. Shear looks very good on Friday as well 50-100knots in the state.

I didn't do too badly in the end. With 117mm for April, over 11 rain days. Only the second month since June last year I have recorded a month over 100mm

A wonderful 10.9mm for the month, bringing my YTD total up to 125.5mm. Average at this point should be 378.6mm. I don't even want to look at the rainfall I'm missing from last year.

A woeful 10mm for the month here. A couple of mm's from a storm last night, but not enough to do anything much. Conditions look terrible around over most Oberon LGA. A long time local resident said he's can't recall ever seeing worse conditions at this time of the year than now.

Bathurst Ag looks like it will just tip the April 2005 record high daily maximum - probably come in at 25.3 versus the 25.1 record. Sydney will smash its record - but there was a site move that could be a factor in the magnitude of the anomaly.

The Sydney site move hasn't happened yet and I gather that it won't take place for a while, awaiting at least a full yearly cycle and depending upon the start date of planned development nearby.

I posted April 2018 details for Sydney on the other thread, as below:

Quote:
OH finished with April min-max averages of 18.0 - 26.1, assuming that today maxes out at 21-23. This is respectively:

* 3.3 and 3.6 above long term averages
* 2.7 and 2.8 above 1981-2010 averages
* 1.1 and 0.6 above the old records.

Total rainfall is 23.2 mm, 18% of average, all falling in the last few days...

Inland locations look to have smashed their April maximum averages by even bigger margins, e.g Bankstown by about 4.5.

Both Bellambi and Albion Park set new average records for Min & Mx temps but with only 19/17 years of records, hardly noteworthy.

Clarification: Bankstown smashed its average April maximum by 4.1°, 27.8 against 23.7. The average minimum, at 15.2, finished 2.7 above average.

The maximum eclipsed the old record of 26.1 by a remarkable 1.7°. The minimum wasn't record, falling 0.4° short.

Years of records? "Smashing" a 19 year old record, for e.g., isn't that noteworthy?

Breaking a record, even if only 19 years...by 4.1C is extraordinary. That's not a one day record...that is over a MONTH. 4.1C over a month is a massive record. Smashing looks appropriate to me.

Bankstown has 49 years of records, back to July 1968. Eclipsing an old record by 1.7 degrees would qualify as smashing. The April 2018 average maximum was 4.1 above the 49 year average 1969-2017.

---

It's been a mostly sunny day with a cool breeze. The water was flowing a few cm over the Lane Cove Weir from last night's rain. It was 20° on the car thermometer around 3:00PM, a contrast to 35° at 3:00PM just 3 weeks ago.

Not sure what the Trewin threshold for 'soft' is but I dare say that 49 years is not soft.

Smashed.
Obliterated.

I'm going for smote. Biblical. Bankstown's record was smote.

Yeh i think i realised that Bankstown AWS has shifted 900km west this April. The stats for this month almost match the April averages for Wilcannia.

It was a beautiful sunny day here for the most part. Though it was quite cool in the wind.

They are pretty fast speeds Antarctic Whaler. I have done 160 before but would not risk those kind of speeds on highways. That's a licence loss waiting to happen, be careful doing stuff like that.

Early frost patches in the forecast for tomorrow and low of just 3 expected in Bowral. Also getting very cold here with 10 atm. Marrangaroo near Lithgow currently at 5. Cooma ditto with dew point of -3 so I expect a pretty spectacular cold night there. Maybe -4 ish.

No rain forecasted this week btw. But another dry westerly change on the 4th which will create very pleasant weather if the wind is kept at bay.
