Yep WR.
I'm finally looking forward to our slow progression into autumn.
It's slowly getting there.
I'm ordering my winter stock of firewood this week.
I'm guessing I'll be needing it sooner rather than later.
Currently just 12.4 degrees. Coldest it has been at this time of the night this year - except for after that storm last night, which was an anomaly.

Really don't seen any widespread decent rainfall for the foreseeable future imo. My heart goes out to all those doing it tough with this lack of rainfall, bushfire season is over so all attention goes out to all those with almost no water in storage.

Already 8c at Albion Park, 4c below forecast and 1c below average. Gunna be a cold one there. Chilly on the coast too at 13, which is average low for this time of year. May see a sub-10.

Hoping Access holds, we may see a decent snow event next week if that happens - 540 line as far north as Newcastle, upper cold pool at -30 and surface moisture. Drools.

Single digits to kick things off in May. Ill take what I can get!

Has actually been very pleasant to finish up in April. We still smashed the previous Avg Max record but a week of 20-24c maximums was most welcome.

Some very warm weather coming up (Thursday could break the May Max record) but looks to dip back down close to the May average from the 7th onwards.

Albion Park bottomed out at an impressive 5.5, over 3c below average and quite symptomatic of a large fat high nearby.

Still in single digits!

The coast fared much better, only ~ 1c below average and no sub-10ís. Still a nice change.

It is stunningly clear this morning too. Will be an absolutely brilliant look day and should get to low 20's with light NEer.

It does look like the season has turned a corner. Here are the average Min-Max for Bankstown so far this year, with averages in brackets (1968-2017):

Code:
Nov: 15 - 25 (14 - 25)
Dec: 19 - 31 (17 - 27)
Jan: 19 - 31 (18 - 28)
Feb: 18 - 29 (18 - 28)
Mar: 18 - 29 (16 - 26)
Apr 1-15: 17 - 30 (14 - 24)
Apr 16-30: 13 - 25 (12 - 22)

So it's still tracking above average but on the way down. The cool change that arrived April 16 (after a max close to 30 across Sydney) seems to be the turning point. Summer began more or less on time after a mild, showery November and continued to mid-April.

A lot of sub-10's across Sydney this morning, 9.6 at Bankstown, as low as 7 in the outer West. I got some blankets out of Summer storage a couple of days ago and put away the fan (last used a fortnight ago). However, I don't think I'll be needing the heater for the time being.

We're back into a mild, sunny pattern, with a mini-heatwave Thursday and Friday, followed by a weak cool change. There was going to be a stronger change on Monday, but the latest runs have pushed it away to the South. The change is stronger in GFS, which follows it with an ECL mid next week, but that's to be taken with a grain of salt since EC and Access seem to show a continuing mild, sunny pattern.

Happy birthday DavidG grin

Our nights are certainly Autumnal and have been for a few weeks. The days are lagging though just like in many places.

We've had a sudden spurt of Autumnal colours finally.

Rows of Poplars looking brilliant out here now especially.

A low at the airport of about 1.7 this morning. House is getting slightly cooler by the day. Fire will surely be lit within the week if even only for several hours at a time.

Heading out to get firewood this weekend with some mates - should be good fun. smile

Interestingly, the new Sydney site (which is not yet the primary reporting site) has started running a few tenths of a degree cooler than the old site for max temps in the last few days, having been generally warmer (except in westerlies) up until now. The wind direction seems to be significant here - the old site has a reputation for being warm in southerlies and the numbers would seem to bear that out.

Thanks DaveM. Looks like another stunning sunny day down this way, mid 20's, no cloud and light winds. I should be happy but I would be happier with a nice strong cold front dropping snow on the CT's and then forming a bombing ECL off the coast giving us all a good soaking. There's always June I suppose, might have to call it a belated B'Day present.

I am sure that Sydney OH is warm in a Southerly, especially when there are long sunny periods. The latest example is the other day, April 29, when the maximum was a warm 22.7, I think the warmest in Sydney apart from the outer West. Olympic Park only scored 21.5.

It's also warm in Winter, with the max temperatures often a degree warmer than everywhere else in Sydney. That might be partly owing to the warm start it usually gets (heat island, location on a local hilltop). Maybe it's sheltered from Westerlies, which are often cool in Winter.

On the other hand, it's cooler than everywhere except coastal headlands in Summer in a NE'er, with complete exposure to the sea breeze funneling down the Harbour, having barely touched land.

I think that the new site will much better represent what people in the inner ring of suburbs actually experience.

Maybe the RAAF dumping chaff into the atmosphere again? Seems to happen a bit around there.

No worries. No rain is expected before then.

It reached 25 today at OH and a few other Sydney area stations. I'd add a degree or 2 to the forecasts for the next few days, maybe 28-29 for Thursday. See what the 4:20PM forecast looks like.
