I will nearly put money on it that the Newy radar will be next to go offline once TH is up and running??

That's the 3rd time the time frame has been put back in the past week.
It's not as if the weather has been holding them up!!
Both the Brisbane (Mt Stapylton) and Melbourne upgrades seemed to run pretty smoothly.
Not sure about the plans for Newy.

The forecast is partly cloudy. However, I'm looking at the sat pic and seeing a huge, growing smear of cloud in the SE of the country. Some models are forecasting high cloud for the next couple of days for us. It could be quite gloomy if the high cloud is thick cirrostratus.
28-29 would be fantastic but I fear the cloud will be keeping a lid on things.

Actually a very nice day today for May Day, 10-23C, and quite mild in the middle of the day.
Looking at a couple of 27's coming up later in the week too, before back to the stock standard 9-23C. Still very pleasant, gotta love real, genuine shoulder season weather. (and not just going straight from summer to winter and vice versa)

Obs Hill is usually slower to heat up in the Winter months. Something to do with all those trees I recall. If you look at the 10 min obs over the years it doesn't warm up until late morning and then catches up to comparable sites, like Mascot, by lunch time. That is, in clear and relatively calm conditions.

Just shows how important micro climate is. When I did my Climatology degree, one of the three final year courses was completely devoted to micro climates.

The wind factor correlation between old and new site might be a bit tricky since Thursday; Fort Denison wind data has been missing since then.

Climatology degree would've been interesting. I guess you didn't get into that line of work though?

Here is a link to a time lapse of that offshore lightning from the other night.

No. I did try for a while and had interviews for private and public job vacancies but never had the winning ticket.

The lecturer and tutor for micro was Dr Helen Cleugh who seems to have done quite well for herself.

I'm wondering whether the weekend cold front/trough will be enhanced by this upper level trough that is causing all this high cloud. Btw Happy Birthday DavidG.

GFS spits up a bit of cold air over a HPS in 8 or 9 days time. Its interested in a bit of an event and has held something for few runs. EC showing a little something as well.
Sooner or later a Tasman event that benefits us should stick.

Despite all that cloud last night, it still managed to be my coldest night of the year so far, 11.1c was the low.
A few sunny breaks here and there today, quite pleasant really. Current temp 22.7c

Yes Gringos something to talk about, lets just hope its there in the next few runs and as well as other models jumping on board too!!

Weather is beautiful at the moment, but so boring.
I don't think I've ever seen the whole site so quiet, not just the NSW forums.

Yes it is quiet.
If the forecasts hold, May is shaping up to be a replica of April: warm and dry. Potential for record high temperatures tomorrow.

Rob I wouldn't say that GFS is going for a persistent cold air hanging around NSW with a Easterly flow, from a HPS. EC a snow dumping surge of cold air with a rather weak ECL. This unfold around the 10th.

We need a serious ECL to liven things up. The storm outbreak the other night didn't quite make the grade for weather interest.

Penrith is forecast to go to 29 tomorrow, compared to its May record (since 1995) of 29.4. Richmond is also forecast to get to 29, compared to its record of 28.5 at the current site and 30.0 at the old one (since 1928, both sites combined).

It doesn't look like there'll be much cloud tomorrow, that mass of unproductive high cloud having cleared around sunset (was there a nice sunset? Forgot to go outside).

So tomorrow looks like a potential May record for some inland sites, although sea breezes look likely to be active near the coast.

850 temps tomorrow afternoon look to be around 13 (they were 18 during the April heatwaves). This is consistent with high 20s maxima, maybe a bit more.

It also looks like a very warm night tomorrow, followed by another very warm but slightly cooler day, depending upon the amount of cloud.

After that, it looks like pretty much of a "nothing" pattern for the foreseeable future - maxima consistently 2-4 above average, maybe the odd light shower...

Wasn't amazing here but it was briefly pretty nice.

A pretty fresh morning here and my first sub 10c for the year, it was only just under, 9.9c was the minimum.

A good looking day coming up.

going to be an awesome day. Sparkling here.

Access going for a proper setup next week. No chance of the ECL being pulled away by a front in that scenario. I will be feeling much more fuzzy about the setup than the last if it holds for a few runs....
