Yet EC-E has upgraded. Seems to be going the way of the last system. Hopefully they all swing back to consensus tonight.

Coldest night this year with 4.3°C, shaping up to be a beautiful day though with temp up to 21 already.

EC and GFS showing another surface low developing with a breakaway upper low and tracking across NSW. Pretty happy thats showing up, because its that feature that is going to make this event interesting I think. Snow for the ranges and more rain potential over a larger area. Overall though, rainwise it seems the event continues to downgrade over time. Seems to be shaping up as a snow chasers event...sure there will be plenty happy about that!

It's still only 18°C at Obs Hill which really surprises me.

Looking good for a snow chase up the hills next weekend. Hope the models hold.

I expect a bit of a downgrade but still should be pretty good whatever happens. Friday and Saturday both looking good.

Certainly as we get closer, this appears to almost be a lock in now. 540 line possibly pushing all the way to the QLD border.
GFS certainly showing some snow for the CT's.
Still 5 days away so things change. Could up or downgrade.
At this stage, there doesn't appear to be a lot of rain for the Metro or Hunter.

BOM this afternoon has upped the ante with anything between 31 and 78 cm's of snow at Thredbo Top Station.
No snow yet forecast for the Central Tablelands forecast district but this might change.

MetEye shows snow on the Central Tablelands in what looks to be areas above about 1,100 metres.

MetEye might be showing that, but it's not in any of the official BOM forecasts yet as of this afternoon.

They’d be waiting til Tues surely before they lock in any forecast that’s a bit extraordinary like snow in May.

1st genuinely cold night of the year, <4C, although was very sad to miss it as was down at the bay for the night. (I am sure there will be more chances).
Nice in the middle of the day though, 22C across the Hunter, mild enough and looks set to continue until mid week, before it looks like we get our first sub 20C days for the season.

May 2000 was quite incredible for snow, even in suburban Canberra.
Anyway snow in May, esp the 1st half of May, would be an extremely unusual event.

11th May 2011 was also pretty good for snow on the CT's, but nothing on May 2000 which was late in the month

What's interesting is that the uppers are so cold that on Thursday the bureau has put down a chance of hail for Melbourne so will be interested so see. Just looks like this will be cold front enhanced by cold uppers along with a cut-off low in the bass strait. We are just unlucky that we haven't had a deep easterly flow otherwise we will all be happy.
