I was at Maroubra this afternoon, near the beach. There were some showers about mid afternoon which looked moderately heavy but which I don't think penetrated far inland. I note that nearby La Perouse picked up 1 mm. It felt was pretty cold and windy at the beach.

Sydney's forecast for the coming week: 7*(sunny, 10-20). Parramatta: 7*(sunny, 7-21)

According to GFS, maybe a cold outbreak similar to the last one around the 29th, but GFS, Access and EC show no weather before then.

Had a work meeting with Northern Beach Council in Manly today and the ground was wet when we came out, dry as a bone back here in Chatswood though, so yes only very coastal. Looks like were all stuck under the super ridge now for the next 2 weeks at least... Looking likely to be another painfully dry month here with only 10mm recorded so far and little prospect(at the moment) of much more.

I think we should make a thread for this VERY interesting weather pattern.

Unfortunately, that's the way it is atm.
I'm loving that finally, I can drive around our local streets and see some colour. It's been very late coming this year.
The sad thing is, a lot of trees have died off and shed dead leaves already due to the lack of rainfall. This will probably be one of the worst autumn colour years that I have seen for a long time I reckon.

Looks like a short-wave southerly change moving up the coast with some shower activity. Hopefully it gets over Saddleback.

Cold here already, with Albion Park already only 6c!

Lovely pic Steve, but it will still be one of the worst Autumn years for colours I've seen for a long time.
In fact, it already is.

Got down to <5C early this morning, nights are definitely becoming wintry now, daytime max's though not quite.
Looking at a whole coming week of 4-6C minimums and low 20s maximums.
A fairly repetitive, but stable weather pattern.

Frigid morning here - down to single figures (9c) on the coast which is pretty cold and only 4c (5c below average) at Albion Park. In fact, Albion Park is now below average for mins for May and Wollongong (Bellambi) if the forecasts come off will pretty soon join it.

Max of 18 on the coast which is almost 2c below and only 19 further inland sure represented the chill in the air.

Volatile atmosphere this time of year so an ECL like that wouldn't be out of the question - uppers are cold so any easterly events will be invigorated, especially if you get the big cradling highs in the right position as well.

Vivid starts toward the end of the month so no doubt some rain on the way

If it happens, LRH, we can say goodbye to the “drought” looking at that. Deep fetch easterlies pumping into a deep low anchored on the coast. Just wish it was a little further south.

And it is coming up to June which usually gives an ECL or two. Or 5 if it's 2007!

Thank you Homer.

-----

A beautiful Autumn day here after a crisp start. OH had its first sub-10 minimum of the season, which means it was definitely cold everywhere else in Sydney.

Parramatta (50 years of records) is travelling close to average for Minima but over 2° above for maxima for the month so far. Sydney's forecast for the coming week shows average or slightly above maxima but below average minima.

There's no rain in the forecast. Much of Sydney missed recent rains, which were nothing much to write home about anyway. Bankstown has had 1.6mm for May to date and only 12.6 since the start of April. This is about 10% of what would be expected for April 1 to May 17 (47 days).

-----

Looking at the forecast and assuming that May 25-31 are close to average, Parramatta will finish with a range of above 9-22, about 1 below to 1 above average.
