well so far perth metro has only gotten 7.8mm... not sure about the 20-40mm prediction.

still every little bit helps to get us closer to the average for jan-july... we are getting quite close to that average too!.

rain will help the dams.. they are about 34.5 percent full.

but ,most of perths water for drinking etc is from the desal plant and from groundwater. only a small percentage comes from dams

to see the current dam levels check out...

Well Perth sitting on just under 20mm and most surrounding areas look to have got more. Another really good event. I guess at 9 we can see how much rain fell in some farming areas. Doesnt look as good for them as last weeks stuff but hopefully enough to keep the ground wet.Still a juicy system to come in the coming days

celebrations---woo hoo!!

have just gone over the average from jan-july of 551mm... it is now up to 561mm

rainfall for the month is 36mm short of the average of 170mm.showers forecast every day till sunday.

Unfortunately for others parts of australia the situation for rainfall for the next 3 months looks less promising.

LOL, arent you sick of rain yet? Looks like coastal and southern parts of Perth got a little less so far but still a reasonable drop with the chunky cold pool yet to come!

Bureau issues flood warning for Perth
Wednesday July 30, 2008 - 11:42 EST

The Bureau of Meteorology is warning of possible flooding on Riverside Drive and the Kwinana Freeway. - ABC
The Bureau of Meteorology is warning a cold front which brought heavy rain to Perth last night could cause flooding.

The bureau says 30 millimetres of rain fell in the city last night.

Bickley in the hills recorded 78 millimetres.

Winds of up to 90 kilometres an hour also lashed coastal areas.

Duty forecaster Adam Conroy says the worst of the front has passed the city, but showers could still cause flooding on the Kwinana Freeway and Riverside drive this morning.

"We're going to be in a vigorous onshore stream all day, so although the worst is over it's still going to be quite a showery day," he said.

Mr Conroy says Perth can expect thunderstorms and possible hail tonight.

Breaking Weather News - Perth's driest August spell in 17 years
Brett Dutschke, 12 August 2008

This is Perth's 10th day-in-a-row without rain, equalling the longest dry spell in August in 17 years, according to weatherzone.com.au.

The city had 26 millimetres of rain in the first two days of this month but virtually nothing since. This comes after a wet June and July when more than 320mm fell, about 32mm more than the long-term average for the first two months of winter.

In August 1997 there were also 10 consecutive days without rain. The previous longest dry period in August was in 1991, 12 days.

There is no rain forecast for Perth until at least mid-next week.

The longest stretch without rain in August was back in 1902, and that was 20 days.

I am not sure why the highs are strongest in winter... maybe this is due to climatic chnge over the years. They are blocking the cold fronts !!!

I see that they are forecasting a shower or two tomorrow. why does it always seem to be rainy on my birthday? Though it is only gonna be light (so they say) and less than 1mm expected in the metro area.

Going by the fact that september 2005 2006 and 2007 were all above average... then i reckon this year september will be below average.

Hope the farmers in the wheatbelt get some rain soon.

And here is some more bad news on sunday a new high will be coming in at 1033 hpa and will be south of perth

how marvellous (sarcastically)

So that break in the weather pattern i thought was gonna happen on sunday is now looking less likely....

more fine weather arrggghhh... this weather is more like brisbane in the dry season(excluding the 1 degree nights)
