I just got to ask Niall Blair directly what was involved with the radar announcement and he said that the state will be building 3 new radars in 'western' NSW. Said the commonwealth had been dragging their feet on this issue. He thought it was going to be 2 in the central west and 1 in the north west. Peak Hill was mentioned... Awesome!!!!

Sounds good. Thanks for sharing.

So Peak Hill, about 400 km West of Sydney, about half way between Orange and Parks. That would be a good location.

Wow GR, that's not looking real healthy atm.

Not sure of the temp today, my weather station is slowly dying, only reports on rainfall, barometer and indoor temp frown
I have explained to the wife I will be getting a new weather station soon, the wife's response how boring!! At least she didn't say no.

Anybody have any idea why my 3 y.o Vantage Pro is suddenly refusing to record below zero? Last week had one of the coldest mornings of the winter, Apsley River frozen over and nearby Woolbrook had -6, I recorded 1.4 min!! Maxima seem to be OK

Have you a solar/battery powered system? At night, batteries on their way out may lose charge and fail to provide valid sensor readings.

If the model forecasts till month end comes off - high and dry - we'll set our 6th month in a row of below average rain. At least though we've had a reasonable drop over the last 4 weeks.

On another note there's been a dearth of frost this winter - one of the least frosty I recall - due in part to persistent cloud. As such our pasture has greened up nicely since that hot and dry autumn, and even grown despite a string of single figure maxima. Perhaps the 'weather' of note forth coming will be frost as a HP ridge settles over the SE of Australia. June maxima are averaging cooler than normal here, but that may even out by month end. June minima are averaging warmer than normal, but could even out to normal if we see a run of frosty nights.

Eddy, you would have had a gut full of the rain for sure. We dont want the coasties to wish it away though, just be cold, wet and miserable a bit longer please smile (well at least if we are getting a spray too)

There is the sniff of an upper level cold pool getting thrown up in the models 6 or 7 days out. It looks to be fairly benign at the moment, but there is always the potential with cold uppers, it could generate some inland rain or coastal event or ECL. Hoping its a fairly strong cold pool and develops a decent event on the back of this one. The main dam is still 30cm below the old record low that it past in January this year. Gets scarier as each cool month passes, especially as tomorrow is the solstice....

Yes had a gut full alright, but I wont mind another 200mm event if it means significant rainfall where its needed the most.

Actually the radar is looking like we might get a few lingering showers overnight.

The rain's come back. I thought it had finished. We've had enough here but West of about Parramatta they could probably do with more.

Sydney looking rather Wintry this morning:

thick drizzle here this morning. Not great for anything really....either ramp it up or get the sun out.

12z GFS pretty much bang on what I was imagining/hoping to show up, with a nice rain event/ ECL spawned by an upper low.

EC and Access seem to hold the cold pool back and its not as strong as it reaches the east and and any rain seems more focused in QLD.
It is something to watch, as there could be a big pay day if the right dynamics align... al a GFS.

FV3-GFS has the upper low tracking over the Northern Tablelands, allowing for a greater spread of rain running all the way down south to the Illawarra.

Yeah been watching this for a few days....hopefully it'll lock in soon - the last event was well forecasted 5/6 days out.

I'd love to see a combo EC cold pool + GFS low. It'd go off. CMC also supports the potential, ACCESS not interested.

This would be better (WRF)

yeah this looks good. OOzCMC has a a chunky and perfectly positioned cold pool. Good drop for the northern inland and big drink for the Hunter with the ECL forming. Im very keen on this. If this goes from a sniff to a pong...happy Gringo

Most of the models have some sort of upper cold pool, but all different in the outcome. GFS backed off again after this mornings good looking run, it may come back onboard as it sometimes does. The Hunter would be primed now after the recent rain/showers, as the soil will now have some moisture in it.

Might get a fog tonight (will take my cam out for some long exposure shots just in case), can already see the hills are a bit misty.

We had 9mm from a stationary shower this afternoon which is unusual for here. Things are well primed for runoff now. For many people in the central and western part of the Hunter and indeed most of inland NSW, an event like this will be of critical importance right now. Everything crossed the stars align....

Good news from EC, latest run has a strong upper trough making an appearance by Monday then becoming cut off right over N inland NSW. The only downside is it moves on quite quickly. However there is another front following right at the end of the run.

The signs are positive

EC rain wise for NSW is quite average, bar north of Port Macquarie. Hopefully it improves though, with so much room to move. But this is a nice break up in the pattern looks like the AAO is kicking into action.
