I mentioned this in the NSW daily thread, thought I'd start a topic here so we could keep a track of things. Very exciting. I'm sure more will be known in the coming days/weeks. Below is what I posted in the NSW thread:

I just got to ask Niall Blair directly what was involved with the radar announcement and he said that the state will be building 3 new radars in 'western' NSW. Said the commonwealth had been dragging their feet on this issue. He thought it was going to be 2 in the central west and 1 in the north west. Peak Hill was mentioned... Awesome!!!!

I always barracked for a radar somewhere around Cobar (smack bang in the middle of NSW), or even NW NSW just to cover that huge void. Good to hear

I've always thought if another radar was added to the large swathe of NSW in the west, it would be just the one - and maybe somewhere like Dubbo.
To be getting 3 is like Christmas.

An extract taken from the NSW Gov website

In addition, Mr Barilaro said that more than $25 million has been allocated to construct and operate three new Doppler radar weather stations in the Central West and Far West – giving farmers more accurate weather forecasting.

“These new radars will deliver fast, accurate and live weather updates to help our farmers make timely business decisions about when to sow, harvest crops or move stock, boosting productivity and saving money,” Mr Barilaro said.

“We know that Western NSW has been crying out for accurate radar information for many years and in particular, I would like to acknowledge and thank Orana Regional Organisation of Councils, NSW Farmers and the Country Women’s Association for their ongoing advocacy for this critical infrastructure.

“The radars will provide real-time weather coverage for 30 per cent of the State.”

And heres a link to a study I came across, put together by the Orana Regional Organisation of Councils (OROC) pushing for more radars in western NSW a few years ago. The study recommends 2 radar locations, Dubbo and Bourke/Brewarrina. The work and advocacy by OROC was mentioned by the Deputy Premier yesterday, so the report might be relevant to some possible locations?

Definitely need a site west around out Dubbo way, it is an obvious hole in the east oz network. Upgrading Grafton radar to modern standards is needed to.
