19mm and still drizzling.

Fishing looks good through to about Thursday. A mate went out Tuesday last week and it was rough as guts through the shipping channel but they got onto a golden patch and cleaned up.

Its pretty slow here this time of year Hickory...works out perfect as its also a good time of year for fishing when the weather allows and it gives us a break and lets us catch up on stuff before things get hectic again come springtime..

What was your mate catching SF and were they fishing the gravel patchs around the shipping channel..?..

Coral trout, somewhere around Farquarson Scott. Photos were impressive.

I had plans to flick some lures this morning, but the drizzle dampened my enthusiasm😢.

Clearing to sunshine now.

I suppose when a prediction is made by 5pm last night with clear skies that it was expected that clouds would arrive and keep the minimum temps to 19, right?

I'm being polite...

Spent a week on the Coast north of the Starcke last week, the forecast was for it to drop off by 10 kn's by the middle of the week, it blew it's arse off harder than ever right about then and the water temp plummeted.
Still picked up a couple of nice Barra and Jack before that, but it all went to (Geeze I need to Squeeze one out) right about when BOM forecast the improvement in both the wind and water temp.
We had our ever trusty 55% home brew Vodka to console us and nature provided the fresh coconut juice for the Pina Colada's so not all was lost though and we struggled on through the last few days of being creek bound in the boat.

BTW have also found a REAL sandly/Midgie proof Mozzie net if anyone is interested, makes for a beautiful nights sleep in such places and you dont even have to spray $10 buck's worth of Bushman's on yourself before retiring for the night to keep the little buggers off you all night.

Loving it. Cool nights and over the last 10 days or so some incredible days on the water. Very un winterlike, windless days. Whales have already turned up. Will be interesting to see how long it lasts

Looks like its going to turn to crap again by the weekend Brett..

Sure was good on the water this week though...we got out on Tuesday and decided to head out again yesterday...it was probably the best ever return trip from the reef last evening ...nearly the whole way in was just perfectly flat and often glassy..not even an inshore afternoon breeze to chop the water up..didn't see a single whale though..

Hope you got to enjoy the outdoors Slipperyfish...this week has been about as good as it gets weatherwise..

Hey Marakai...you need to head a bit further north to around Bathurst head/Bathurst bay..the shape of the coast helps create a bit of a lee around some of the headlands there and you can can even sneak out around the Flinders islands if you are keen..still gets blowy though..

and whats the sandfly net..?..I bought an oztrail tent because it was supposed to have finer sandfly mesh...I can testify they can still get through ..there is nothing worse when you are trying to sleep..

Stunning weather Scott. Just got home from a hiking trip down to the Hull River mouth. Had a nice cuppa atop Tam O’shanter. Views were a million bucks, so blessed to live in paradise. Long walk though and Lugger Bay looked so good for a swim I just had to do it😁. Kept a good look out for the resident big lizard however.

Time to kick back and enjoy the arvo.

At 00:15 hrs it's still 20.6°. A far more pleasant evening than the 13° crap.
It looks like Sat and Sun the cold pool of air comes through S.E Oz, then maybe two or three days later will be up our way.
Sure hope the forecast is wrong.

Yeah I'm dreading this coming cold snap too hickory..forecast is not so bad for you Cairns dudes but we might have some sub 10c temps down here...brrrr..

SF..there are some other nice spots around here to check out....my boy has been out and about over the last year..some of the hikes/places he has visited are Bicton Hill, Laceys Ck, Aligators nest, Nyleta Ck, Murray falls, Kirrama range road to Blencoe falls..if you are keen Mt Tyson on a clear day is supposedly great and the Thorsburn trail if you are really adventurous.....also on the dead low winter tides you can walk out to King reef.. we were planning on checking it out this past week but fishing got in the way..

Blencoe falls for a camp is brilliant. I love the place.

Sooty Grunter galore too.

Prepare for frost on the tablelands this coming week.

Been to most of those Scott. Blencoe is beautiful.

Went flicking lures for an hour or so this morning just down the southern end in and around the rocks near Lovers Beach. Nice 68cm barra for my effort. Threw it back, no more room left in the Kelvinator.

Conditions have been absolutely magic.

Quote:
Temperatures to drop below freezing in Queensland within days
Temperatures are expected to drop this weekend in Queensland's south before dipping below freezing early next week.

The Bureau of Meteorology said cool, dry air coming from south of Tasmania was predicted to make the mercury drop in the Sunshine State and cause widespread frost.

The BoM are still backing this in, so maybe it's going to happen.
All indications on the charts are very certain of it. Flanny shirt has been on since late April, now the trackie dacks and maybe a shawl too. laugh

This has been the coolest June so far. Average Min currently 8.3c and max 24.7c. Bugger all wind too which has been amazing. Perfect days.
Usually I get an average 2 nights in June with mins below 10c. This month 13 times so far and with more to come.

This would have to be my favourite winter in FNQ. I hope it stays like this till September. grin
