Still under 10 here Quagy and I just heard those loud rumbles here in Dural.
Heavier rain earlier (no hail) but becoming lighter now.
That wind change Steve was certainly unexpected. It felt cold immediately as it hit - about 10 minutes before the rain started.
Lots of low, scuddy cloud came in from the south west, while the rain was heading in from the north west. Strange indeed.

Radar & doppler are interesting, seem to be indicating the formation of a surface low near Appin?

Don't you just love stormy weather right on School pick up? eek

I had the same today myself although it was only light rain at the time of pick up, but once around the block from School it absolutely chucked it down, cars were pulling over out on the highway.

Nice little gift for our Hunter friends.

Heard a bit of thunder (Chatswood) shortly after my last post. I think we've had more thunder days in June than January or February. I'll check my storm spreadsheet later. Chatswood has had 5 millimetres since 9:00, that would have been in the last couple of hours. It looks like the West did better from this afternoon's rain, with falls over 10 mm out there.

In the meantime, it's been steady light rain with not much wind once the blustery front passed through. It was a very dark, gloomy afternoon, although the Sun made a late appearance about 4:50PM, a big bright yellow orb shining through the rain beneath a distant clearing edge. There might have been a rainbow on the other side of the sky but I was driving on a busy road and couldn't check.

Just had another burst of heavy rain here after that sun-glow about half an hour ago that Steve spoke of.
Looks like the clearing edge is near.
A nice, although inconvenient (for me) surprise this afternoon.
I need to make sure I pack the gum boots for work tomorrow. The site will be a bog. frown

Well, even though models did vasilate on this event, it actually delivered over 40mm here dragging us to almost dead on average, with not much chance of any precip in the next few days.

As for this ‘warmer drier’ winter, we’ve had a colder wetter start. The exact opposite lol.

The clearing edge passed over here a while back. Last time I looked out there was a bright, full Moon. It's very damp, with the temperature probably around 8-9. Humidity readings across Sydney except near the coast are close to 100%. It's probably foggy in many places (not just Homer's), although looking out the window, not here yet. A foggy morning followed by a sunny day tomorrow, probably warmer than the forecast 17. I think that Saturday will pass 20 again unless the next front is early.

The fog formed while there was still cloud overhead earlier.
Once the clear skies appeared, the fog disappeared.

June has been around average for both rain and temps, most places seem to be hovering within the +0.8c - -0.8c range and rain a little on the drier side away from the coast, but still better than it has been. Certainly not the drier/warmer as you say. Heading down to the snow at the end of July so hopefully an epic July to come!

Meanwhile were having the coldest morning of the year here with 5.7C! eek

This morning's walk to the station, featuring fog. smile

Quite fresh for a foggy morning, too!

I wonder how Dave did out at Bathurst. Good to see a drop for the inland. Only 6mm here and with the next event deleted, it may well be that the end of June will see the end of the rain for us. Not that the tap was ever really turned on, but there was bits and pieces of potential and some ok events this month.

Without a proper ECL, or Solid NW cloudbands coming into the mix, July and August give me little hope for rain usually (in this area at least). Maybe a little bit of reverse psychology will get things going...

Not sure how Dave fared Gringos, but I tipped out 15.5mm yesterday arvo. We had about 5mm overnight and another 10mm mid morning yesterday.

A couple of random totals from out west: One of our sites near the Macquarie Marshes, about 40km NNW of Warren, recorded 39mm in a little over 14 hours. And another site in the Willandra NP between Hillston and Ivanhoe recorded 29mm.

Next week's "event" has been pushed away to the North by a high pressure ridge. It will affect SE Queensland and maybe NE NSW before moving out to sea. South of the ridge will be long-fetch NW'ers, bringing us a mini heat wave.
