A minimum of 17.2C overnight for Obs Hill... shame the 9am temp yesterday will knock more than five degrees off that

I just recorded the warmest July night for 9 years here: 10.6 C at 7.50 pm last night. In fact it's the first time in 9 years I have recorded a minimum over 10 C between 23rd May and 5th September!

July average minimum is -2.0 C.

Last night was a struggle. Got down to 13.9c at Homebush, but that was at midnight. Most of the night hovered around 17c. After most nights in June being 6c or below I had to have the fan on, a first for July. Quite a shock to the system. It feels like late October weather.

Some cloud cover around now means temps have stalled.
Still well above average, but probably no records now.

Don't know where they are getting their data from re Maitland, it hit 25.9c a couple of years ago in July. However, probably a record this early in July.

Richmond set a new July record last year hitting 27.9c, however yeah probably another record this early in the month.

According to obs around the Hunter it is quite windy, yet not a puff about here, warmish even with that thick blanket of cloud about.

Beach was beautiful too!!

Obs Hill seems to have peaked at 24.8, so just avoiding 2 consecutive days above 25 in July. Winds coming from the west now.

As to discussion around the Schofields reading, just looking at the Bom data for OH shows the high min temp for Syd was observed on the 2nd of July 1942, only dropping to 18.1c. I can imagine then that the reading for the 1st for Schofields has a chance of being true, depending on it there was a proper screen or not. Clearly there was a heat event around this time.

Obs Hill did set a record for two consecutive July days being this warm however.. just.

Sidney - yeah with records set in the last year or two WZ can be a bit unreliable - I think they do a database update every couple of years. Hard to keep track with so many records falling every year!

Yeah I heard that on the radio coming home from work as well.
A quick check with the current station (only 2 years of records) and old station (19 years of records), shows they are correct.
Still this is not a very large sample size, and no more noteworthy than Singleton yesterday.

Pretty much uniform weather predicted for the next 7 days, cooler and windy, 17-18C max and 5-7C minimums, but no frost predicted in the Lower Hunter which is good.

Certainly much cooler this morning, first time this month wearing a jumper.

Looking like a showery week ahead from Tuesday for us coasties, Friday could be fairly wet, although some charts have most of the rain falling offshore.

Drove from Bathurst down to Jervis Bay this morning. Was nice and frosty and calm when I left. Drove into some drizzle/light rain at Goulburn, and then it blew a gale the whole way to the coast. Some solid gusts rocked the car at times between Goulburn and Nerriga. Nice and warm at Vincentia, at least compared to Bathurst. Kicking back with a beer wearing only a shirt.

I guess you would't enjoy the 3-4 degrees it is here now.
