All good Michael smile

I wish the better amounts of the currently forecast rainfall for around mid next week would penetrate further inland.
The more decent falls still look mainly offshore and coastal with the southern end of the coastal trough bending the winds around to a somewhat more SSE direction onto the coast.
Still a few days to go though so not quite set in stone yet.

P.S. I forgot to mention, it suddenly looked impressively dark and threatening here this afternoon ahead of the front.. almost as if it was bordering on producing some thunder... but just ended up getting some light to moderate rain out of it.

Same here this afternoon. Very dark and gloomy ahead of the front but nothing more than a light shower eventuated. No lightning or thunder.

It's a shame about the positioning of next week's upper trough. It's just too far east, too flat and as usual the result will be that the heaviest rainfall will fall mostly offshore. The same system looks like eventually bombing into another lame low pressure system in the Tasman Sea as well. EC seems to have beaten GFS to this one as GFS originally had a strong trough (some runs an upper low) over W QLD while EC always had a fairly flat trough much further east.

Yea was looking gloomy yesterday ahead of the front I made the mistake of looking at the synoptics and not taking notice of the forecast soundings. There was that layer of very dry stable winds aloft thats stopped any activity reaching a descent height for consecutive days. I thought the upper trough would of brought colder air but it must of mixed with the upper ridge at the same time?

Back in Warwick and found 18mm sitting in the gauge. Does anyone know the evaporation rate over an 8 day period of a Nylex rain gauge? Anyway, very impressive indeed. Might be up there for our best total in 15 months. Things are actually a little green out this way again.

Average evaporation rate is around 2mm/day for the Downs around this time of year. Although I'm not sure a nylex rain gauge would be this high because its not exposed to the wind. I reckon you would be lucky to lose 0.5mm a day if I was to guess

Thanks Adam. That would make around 22mm here for last week. It looked like on radar the heaviest amounts were here on the west end of Warwick. Did you guys get much out your way in west Toowoomba area Adam?

Late Wednesday maybe some showers forecast for the Downs doesnt look like much. Onshore activity might continue for abit no future cold fronts anytime soon there was a hint of one on the ext run but still snooze fest.

Another quite decent storm season here. The storm season was slow to begin, with very little activity in the first quarter (not surprising considering how exceptionally dry the Jul-Sep period was). However, the storm season quickly picked up during October and remained stormy into early November. Stable conditions ruled during the mid and latter parts of November though. December was very stormy, and this storminess continued into the earlier half of January. After this, there was another lull period which continued through February (more a case of "missing out" rather than an absence of unstable conditions this time). March and April saw an increase in storm activity again. Quietened off in May-June as per usual being a part of the "off-peak" season, though there was some weak instability hanging around in early June.
The highlight of the season was the extended severe storm outbreak from late December through into early January (approx 3 week period).

Picture perfect winter weather at the moment. Sun already feels a bit more powerful compared to 21st of June. So spring not too far.

Still looking like the ocean and offshore islands will get the most rainfall during the next few days, with some of the showers affecting the coastal fringe from time to time (the majority from Wed afternoon or evening) and maybe a bit further inland as well.
Even after winds turn more onshore from late Wed, it's not really a strong flow and the upper trough to our west doesn't look overly strong for us.

Looks like colder nights again from the end of this week until around mid next week but max temps look close to average, at least for here.

1st image - probabilities of recent dry or wet dominant conditions continuing over the next few months from some of the models displayed via IRI.

2nd image - total two-day rainfall spanning Wed and Thu from FV3, the currently experimental model due to replace the existing GFS late next year (it's still in experimental stage though so its accuracy is likely to change before it becomes operational).

Thanks Ken,
Good timing, we have a big party this weekend and need it to dry out not be wet the next few days. A much better forecast than a week or so ago.
Will be ready to lay out some tarps to keep the ground dry.

This long run of boring monotonous weather is showing no real signs of letting up. Amazing to watch how some models (*cough* GFS) have time and time again tried to break the pattern down in their 7-9 day forecast but have repeatedly failed. Another massive area of low pressure will develop off the coast in response to this amplifying upper trough and then smash NZ on the weekend. Painfully boring weather from most weather enthusiasts perspective I would think. Oh well, at least the days have been nice...but damn it gets old. This is why I hate winter in northern Australia...bring on spring already.
