I'm not politicising anything I just think it's horrible and it just feels like a sign for what is likely to be a very bad season.

That upper low is looking more and more probable to pass over the central coast and deliver a NE flow to coastal and adjacent inland areas. Although EPS has it moving more north, although stay tuned hopefully it can deliver a decent system to quell fears over the fire season.

Yes.

------

Drove up to Newcastle today to visit family. There wasn't any weather, but it was a very nice day for lunch on the deck then a walk along Nobby's Breakwater and the beach. Saw six dolphins (two groups of three) in the Hunter river, couldn't get a good picture.

Here's a view of Nobby's Beach, with smoke is from bushfires in the Port Stephens area behind Nobby's Head. The fires, about 40 km distant as the crow flies, have generated a pyrocumulus cloud.

Fortunately, the fire doesn't seem to be threatening lives and properties.

The flags are out and sunbathers are about but there's no one in the water except keen wet-suited surfers. Given that MHL shows the sea temperature off Sydney is below 17, that's hardly surprising. It's probably colder inshore - it dropped below 16 at Nobby's Head when the wind turned onshore.

Sydney Airport has dropped 7 degrees in about 45 minutes. There are a few drops of rain here and it's very windy. Radar shows a few heavier showers passing over Sydney's South.

EDIT: nice pictures too Eddy. Looks like you caught the other side of that fire. Just heard on the news that there's an emergency warning for the Salt Ash fire in the Port Stephens area.

Down to 4 degrees here in Bowral under that heavy shower, with some small hail too. 3 degs at the high range AWS. Could get interesting snow-wise later tonight as it gets gradually colder. However I think the best chance for snow is tomorrow night between 7-10pm when winds push SSE

Sat pic is pure winter porn at the moment. Snow has been bucketing down most of the day in the alps.
Very blustery day today with gusts into the 80's in the metro.
Quite mild earlier but temp has dropped rapidly over the past couple of hours. It'll be a chilly one tomorrow.

1cm of snow settled here earlier this afternoon then melted. Another lot of snow settled about an hour ago, but now it is gradually melting. Temperature around 0.5 atm. Very marginal snow event for here. We will see what it's like in the morning.

The big 3 are are running hard for some type of upper trough/upper low event next weekend with substantial coastal rainfall. As usual, a 50km variance will see us with nil while all that precious H2O will fall out to sea.

Freezing conditions here with temperature on -1.6C after a low of -2.0C. Not a lot of snow but well covered with about 1.5cm. Drifts in places more than 6cm.

Rob G...good to hear you have had at least some snow from this system around Porters Retreat..thanks for the reports.
Here at my place in Orange at 885 m asl I am still waiting/hoping for some flakes later today. It has just stared to drizzle here in the past hour or so with the odd microscopic flake, after a dry and blustery night....but yes it is very cold still around zero at Orange Airport.
