At Manilla, NSW, August saw the increase of rain (28 mm) to the 40th percentile, but continuing extremely low dew points.

Winter as a whole was similar, with record low dew points and little rain. The winter rain total of 42 mm displaced 2002 as the ninth driest.

I am documenting the progress of the drought more precisely than has been done before or in other places.
https://climatebysurly.com/2018/09/01/drought-sixth-month-august-2018/

I am putting notes on the drought in a "weatherzone" thread in Weather Events NSW/ACT. My post in that thread dated 1 July contains a graph showing that winter 2016 had been the wettest time in recent years. That agrees exactly with the extreme wetness of winter 2016 in the graph copied above.

June - 20.25mm
July - 26mm
Aug - 10.5mm (56.75mm for winter versus long term average of 186mm for this period)

If things dont break, Gippsland Vic will be repeatedly in the news during this looming fire season.
