Very dismal this morning, but still no significant rain. Most stations in Sydney recorded little or nothing overnight, mostly under a millimetre. Nearby Chatswood scored a millimetre to 9:00.

This is a very changeable time of year. We might be a couple of weeks away from the first 30+ of the season, although not in the next week or so. On the other hand, it's possible we haven't yet had our coldest day (maximum) of the year, nor the heaviest snowfalls in the Central Tablelands or Southern Highlands.

Showers have finally arrived here and moderate at times. Wettest start to any month since Feb so hopefully there's more to come.

Good moderate falls now, with more to come. Yay. And it looks on satpic like another cut-off low in fa western NSW, not moving fast which will help suck in this easterly flow aiding showers.

Grey, wet and 12° outside - what most people think as "Wintry". Sydney OH has accumulated 4.0 mm since 9:00AM, no big deal but it is the wettest day there in 2 months. September to date had had 6.6 mm at Sydney OH. It looks set to exceed its August 2018 monthly rainfall (7.8mm) shortly. The Sydney radar is showing more on the way, especially in the South. The showers are penetrating well inland this time.

Sydney's done well in parts. Bankstown seems to be Sydney's wet spot, with a badly needed 12 mm. Sydney OH has had its wettest day and first 10 mm since June 28. Showers in the Southern part of Sydney have penetrated inland, e.g. 4-5 mm in the Picton-Camden area, 7 mm at Warragamba, bad sadly not so much in the Northern part of Sydney and the Hunter.

---

If it doesn't go above 14.7 at OH before 9:00 tomorrow (which it might if winds turn E-SE), today will have been the equal second coldest day of the Winter (with June 19) and only the third sub-15 this year. It would also be the coldest September day since 2008.

On the beaches we're getting the heaviest rain in a long time although it is isolated. Little by little the totals will build over the next few days, patience is key - a lot of areas need it. SW of Syd which need it very desperately seem to be primed with more coming from the E/SE

Nah, record lowest max was 13.0°C on 9th Sept 2011. Yesterday and today were 13.4 and 13.5 respectively.

Strange as WXZone don’t even have the temp anywhere near 13.5 at 1030am when it was supposedly recorded.

What's with the chance of a storm across central west and metro (and perhaps other areas) on Friday?

Passage of trough/cold front because of the earlier easterly feed, pretty sure.

Irrespective of the record or not, it’s the coldest start to September on record and the coldest consecutive days on record. And not a peep anywhere.

Well that is obviously the official maximum, and anyway the temp was 13.0 at 10:30am which could easily be increased with a brief sunny break.

And there's probably not a word anywhere about the coldest start on record and coldest consec days because Bellambi only has a short history, not because BOM have some agenda that you are thinking of.

And yeah I am back briefly Homer.

Looks like some decent overnight and early morning rainfall in the lower Hunter, I hope that GringosRain got some of it, over 50mm in parts.

Wrong. It’s also the coldest start for Albion Park, Kiama, Nowra, Ulladulla & Point Perpendicular. Seems newsworthy to me,
