Hail amount and size was nothing like that here at Stanhope Gardens.
Rainfall total for today now up to 47.3mm and counting, and my minimum temperature of 8’c was reached at 15:44 today during the heaviest of the rain on my PWS.

Right next to where i used to live that hail at the Ponds. Literally 500mtrs away from that pic!. Anyways up to 10mm at Glenorie, i suspect a lot more in areas just around here as we've been on the outskirts of most of the heavy cells. Still moderately showering now

Beautiful rainbows and sunshower pics plus sunset with rising rainfog atm. Pretty cool. Someone ie geeks2u needs to come around and show me how to post pics. Ive always got heaps from every system but technology frustrates me too much

A useful 11mm fell here. Came just in time to keep spring pasture growing. Looking to Saturday, Access is bullish on rain and cold, while GFS predicts near nothing. Meteye has added snow to the mix here late Saturday night. We'll see what happens.

Good to see useful falls and storms about. Great hail pictures Meso-mal.

All of the afternoon's action missed me, although it looked promising at one stage. I got distant lightning and rumbles.

Quagmelson: re posting images, I use Postimage.org. It's free and easy to join and use. It allows you to resize an image. It provides a link which you can just copy and paste directly here.

Here's a view of the storm over the NW suburbs about 3:30 this afternoon, from Chatswood Golf Club (contrast and colour enhanced):

Came home to 51mm in the Nylex and nearly 38 through the Vantage.
Good falls right where they're needed most; my rain tank. grin

I missed all the action today being in Sydney but was nice to see 6.6mm to 9am and another 13mm after that here.
Some odd showers just hovering off the coast atm too.

Nice!!

13mm is a fairly large discrepancy there, are the gauges miles apart?

Holy hell, down to our expected minimum already, and before 9pm.

They're about 2m apart! Given that one costs about 100 times more than the other I'm going with the Vantage.
The differences are annoying but I am not getting a third rain gauge to check!

Bright, sunny and rather chilly here. It's foggy in the City:

Yesterday was a boring gloomy day here with most of the shower activity sticking to high ground and going around us.Falls ranged between 2-6mms however further north around Berry/Foxground got a fair bit more. Yesterdays max of 12.6c,has been 9am reset to 13.7c, how annoying.

Ah, yes. That bloody 9:00 AM reset mad

Whenever the Oberon Springbank station (BOM) recorded midday temps of no greater than 2° C back in midwinter, the bloody 9:00 AM temp for NEXT DAY rendered its real maximum from the preceeding day useless.

F—k me dead, f—ken crazy crazy crazy

I gather the Vantage gauge uses tipping bucket technology. Tipping buckets are notorious for under reading in heavy rain. Needs to be calibrated - preferably against a BoM standard 8" gauge. Trouble is a BoM standard gauge probably costs more than a Vantage weather station. About 12 years ago they were over $200 a pop.

Yeah I have given up on the calibration.
Turned the screw about as far as it will go.

Sydney looks like it'll have an average max barely a degree warmer for September than July.

Yep that would drive me nuts. Probably doesn't help that the gauges around you on Wunderground had quite varying rainfall totals too!!

Anyway I recorded 6.7mm from yesterdays thundery rain.

Interesting MetEye going for storms again tomorrow after lunch, as another cold pool comes wandering. Have to be the chance of hail again.

Minimum well below forecast again this morning, currently 5.5C, and going for a 30C max.
Some big diurnal ranges coming up, but probably unlike to match those in Oct 2012. (over 30C)
