It was actually a quiet night. Doesn't seem to be windy yet.

Yeah not much sustained wind. Just gusty then calm at the moment.
Nights are dead calm still C@28. Wind usually dies sometime between 5pm and 7pm.

I think the real wind is just starting as I type.

Smack on average for September day time temps. Was the coldest for overnight temps though from my records.

First pic below is an average day wind wise and the second is currently. You can see how much earlier the wind is starting up, especially at the end of the second graph where you can see the wind started at ~7:30am, and how constant it is throughout the day compared to normal. Any wind gusts under 10km/h is practically nothing, 10-20km/h is annoying, 20+km/h is horrible. Wind speed over 10km/h is horrible.

Speeds would be higher if I had my anemometer in a better position and at the correct 10m height. Where I have it the wind would be dampened a bit now the trees in the orchard have grown.

Today will probably be the worst day of the lot with gusts over 20km/h before 6am. At least it is giving us something weather wise to talk about hahaha.

At least the wind is bearable this morning. Hope it doesn't get as bad as yesterdays, as the day wears on.

Edit: a few minutes later.....seems to be picking up towards being unpleasant. frown

2.5 overnight - and wind blows endlessly with cool and comfortable (but not normal) weather prevailing.

No buildup, there'll be no storms the way things are shaping up currently. Early Oct normally get the odd heavy storm some years

Ridiculous wind yesterday and its really giving it a solid go again today.

I hope that is not the case Wandy. We really do not get many storms in Mareeba during the buildup anyway. January to March we get lots of storms. Average probably 1 direct hit per month for November and December with maybe a few mm from remnants 2 more times per month. Last October was unusual.

I had more storms in my first January in Mareeba than 3 years in Cairns. I know it is a little different for you out in GV.

From Memory the tablelands does not fire up really till November.

EDIT: forgot to add that last year, Thursday 19th October, there was a huge storm, from the tablelands through to the coast, that went for hours. Loads of flights were delayed from Cairn AP including my flight from Brisbane to Cairns. Remember it well as it was the biggest storm Cairns had seen in 6 years and I missed it lol.

We have had a nice showery morning..

The wind looks like dropping for an extended period tomorrow..I guess that means warm and dry days ahead...

It will be a bit disappointing if we don't get any storms though..

A frog or two croaked momentarily last night. Heard him/them on two other nights in the last week.
Dunno what that means.....if anything.

4mm overnight

Did hear frog a couple of days ago, wondered whatever could have triggered it, will see hopefully.

That's good news wind is going to drop, no doubt days will be hotter, but maybe the chance to wind up some precip from storms in a week or so

Still quite gusty around the middle of the day, but a relatively cool afternoon, and almost chilly now. lol.

From what I got told it started at around 11pm Wednesday night and went right through till about 8/9am Thursday. Still can't believe I missed that one.

0.2mm from a little light rain at 5pm. Wind died right off this arvo too. Looking forward to lighter winds for a little while. The higher humidity today was nice too after such dry winds.

That is the thing up here though, all the weather comes in spells of 1-2 weeks. Which is nice when it is nice weather but when it is weather like we just had it is horrible. Down south you generally get all your weather types in 1 week and sometimes several in 1 day hahaha.

Have started hearing frogs croaking too. October is usually when they start here. In November they are deafening.
