Merry X-mas to you up there David. Our week of weather has been rather non-descript in our hills to the East of Adelaide SA. Nice cool calm days, kind of hope X-mas day is like this and not 42 degrees! A couple of years ago we had great thunderstorms on x-mas day with very heavy local falls, that is acceptable too, in fact that is preferrable!
Cheers,
Tim laugh laugh

G'day David,
Mate I didn't believe there was such a place as Polk county Arkansas. I thought Steven Hunters Polk county was a fictitious place. Does the town of Blue Eye exist, if it does I'll start thinking Bob Lee Swagger will pop up with a Winchester Mod. 70 in .308 and start dropping baddies everywhere. Mate I live in a little town on the NSW north coast called Maclean and right now we are like most people in Oz hoping for rain. In a word or two, Dry as a lizards foot. Interesting reading what you have posted so far, 50 odd inch av rain fall and most of us would be permanently treading water. Thanks David
Cheers Darryl

G'Day Hillsrain & Darryl:
Yes, there is a very small town in Arkansas called Blue Eye; it is in Northern Carroll County, just south of the Missouri state line. FYI: Other Polk Counties in the US are in Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin.
Yes, I'm glad for the ample rain we get as I never get tired of looking at all the green grass and foliage. I've seen desertland and it's not as pretty IMO. The last year for below normal rain for Mena was 1992. We may have below normal rain for the Summer months but the ample rains in the Spring usually makes up for the deficit., especially when a Stationary front or a Warm front parks overhead and gives us a good deluge.
Merry Christmas/Happy New Year to You & Yours.
David (getting rained on again) Powell

Rain on the 8th was from the passage of a Canadian cold front. Rain on 9-10th & 12-13th was from an upper-level low. Finally saw sunshine on the 14th(first sunshine seen since the 7th). The El Nino will give us above normal precip, which I like--it's just I could do without all this prolonged cloudiness. Overall High-12:01 A.M.-listed for the 9th. Temps this upcoming week are to get into the 60sF(15.5C+), I'll be ready for it, but this time of year the above normal warmth won't last very long (WHAM! A dose of Winter reality comes down from Canada.)
Enjoy your week & Happy Holidays.

After closer looking, the distance of lying Snow for Christmas (the closest to Mena), between Fayetteville and Fort Smith would be about 55MI (88.5km) North of us.

Thanks for sharing your reports with us! Just one question: wouldn't the primary cold front hit before the secondary cold front?

Rain was from pre-frontal activity. Dry powerful Canadian cold front passed through on the 15th with brief Snow flurries. Overall Low-abt. 11:38 P.M.-listed for the 14th.
I was in Mena Medical Center, from 15th-16th due to an attack of colitis; I had to return to hospital and stay from the 18th-24th due to a bad reaction to a colonoscopy. I'm fine now and glad to be home. Watching the Snow flurries made me feel some better.

Matthew Pearce: Greetings! A secondary Canadian cold front (with cool airmass) hits us usually right before a primary Canadian cold front(with MUCH COLDER[arctic/polar] air mass does.
I'm glad to be back. While in MMC, saw on the TV about your terrible bushfires; heres hoping that ya'll get some relief!

G'Day, David.
Sorry to read that you were a bit poorly, I hope you are doing better now. I am glad that you managed to get some snow, I would love to see some as I haven't been to the snow since I was a child, I went to a place called Lake Mountain, in Victoria in the early '70s that had snow, I had a snowball fight with my sister and parents, a fond family memory that I'll never forget!! I hope you come good soon and I hope that you continue to have a good winter. I've enjoyed reading your weather reports, I just wish I was there as well.

All the best, Mick.
