Gee theyve started very early.
Will this be a sign of good storm outbreak later or will this activity stuff things up

Clouds don't look right for storms reaching the coast to me. Models show reasonable sheer, SW steering winds and instability highest near the coast, which I'd think is good for reaching coast. There might be ridging near the coast and sinking air?

Generally its better if storms travel to the coast the only thing that probably keeps things moderate is the instability but I reckon shear is more important.

I am just south of that small cell sitting between Brisbane City and Boondall. Sun out here but picking up a few rumbles of thunder from that cell.

Nice storm just popped up over Bracken Ridge. Some good cracks of thunder out of it already. Very quickly forming.

2 STW warnings for southern QLD but they don't have the storms reaching the Bay. They may have to re-evaluate shortly.

No rain here at Sippy and clearly passed north now. Lucky guess with my first statement? I think it was the type of setup that we needed a line of storms extending to the coast to get something here. For cases were storms can come out of the west towards us there is something different about the sky, but I'm not sure if I can put my finger on it. Maybe its as simple as sheer direction and what direction the mid level clouds are tilting.

Certainly coming down here now, flange, crack, bang. No wind though, but very close, be lucky if there's a second between flash and bang.

And of course, schools out in 5
