Yes, the showers tonight and last night were a bit of a surprise actually in their heaviness.

Looks pretty likely we will set a new monthly minimum record for the Clare site going back to 1994. Will have to check the old site as it is going to possibly be a full 2 degrees below the current. I suspect much of SA will be very below. More frost before months end, what a disastrous cropping season outside of the reliable areas.

Potential for a low/s in the coming fortnight and some precip but given how cold the waters are from every direction our weather comes, even if we do score a low I have little faith for good rainfall. Going to be scarily dry this summer if things don't change soon.

-1.6 at Clare AWS last night, coldest of the whole month..2 days later we would have had a new october record. Looks like the September monthly minimum has well and truly been broken.

Such severe frost for this late in the season. some of the late sown crops near farrel flat are barely 15cm high at a guess, minimal rainfall and hammered by frost all month. Crops must be a complete failure in some areas this year.

Looks like the storm on the 128 km Adelaide radar is moving a bit under its own steam...

That was one of the best shows for a while. Very frequent bolts.
Went right over us at the airport. Gutters were overflowing in the centre of that black core.

Last night was stormchasing at its best - no driving anywhere, frequent lightning & loud thunder overhead!

Started off with rolling thunder & distant flashes to our NW.

Eventually the flashes got closer, the storm then proceeded to the crash-bang phase with 4 very loud flangs overhead. One sounded as if one of the bridges at Darlington had come crashing down, the whole house shook and our cat disappeared under the table.

I went out the front and watched the receding storm with some cgs appearing to "pierce" a streetlight (fortuitous alignment of cg & streetlight)multiple times. The cell producing the black core was nicely silhouetted against the surrounding sheet lightning.

Finished up with 6.3 wonderful mm of rain for the garden. Wasn't expecting that much so was very welcome.

A couple of mm in the rain gauge.
Cycled back and forth to work - got a little damp wearing my fleecy outer, a little more on the inside due to sweat perhaps ;-)
