Summer heat has a time limit on it now. The irresistible lengthening of night and shortening of days finally starting to impact on heat.

The main source of high heat for you guys now will be big NW air flows dragging the heat down from WA/SA etc.

Without a solid NW air flow, I can't see many hot days down there now (yes I know, famous last words) smile

Your nights should start coming down a bit now, they've been a bit warm of late.

Getting pretty gusty now , could be a cool night and the doonah may have to come out of hibernation.

Has the rain been enough to put any fires out?

Hi all from Hobart , was meant to be 19c here today but got to 21.2c . So the sun still has a bite in it and tomorrow could be another cooker now. As far as the news on the fires as of last nights news , snow and rain fell in those regions but not near enough to put out fires and they continue to burn. A fire fighting emergency camp has been set up in Strahan on the West Coast as more interstate fire fighters arrive. Apparently this has never happened before in the history of Tasmania , so it's a major ongoing problem. Greenpeace has also used this seasons fires in places that just shouldn't burn as proof of Climate Change. But sorry we can't go there , just saying what's in the news and going on at this end of the world. wink Also tourism is also suffering as people are hearing about what's going on down here and cancelling their trips as many of the parks are closed. Also there is also the news about the Oyster Virus this season that is wiping out our famous oyster industry , again the news is reporting the culprit may be the non mentionable as above. Certainly has never seen before and it's also wiping out native oysters in the Derwent as well. So what a wonderful warm season we have had . frown

New forecast out and Sunday 25c , Mon 26c and Tues 28c so at this stage we sit 1c below the record of 25.2c . So it's going to be tight if we get anymore warm ones after that.
I think Barilla Bay is one of the affected areas , it's even made it's way to Bruny which is incredible.
The Queen said it and now I will say it too ! "Annus Horribilis"

Good post, certainly not a joking matter. Environmental damage from obvious climate change is feeding thru into the economy in quite dramatic ways. You just forgot to mention the collapse of Tasmania's hydro dams and the record low rainfall in the west in your post, another economic shock .

Has Basslink been fixed yet?

You won't break the record H, a number of cool changes flicking by the state will keep temps mild despite the occasional spike. smile

Tomorrow will be 16 or 18, after Tuesday it stays down around the 20 mark. A very warm month but no record. smile

What a lovely 18c degree day today , made working in tin sheds and outside very pleasant indeed. The same tomorrow so a double bonus , yes warming up after that and even a 29c thrown in.
Yep , I forgot to mention the Hydro and certainly no good news there. And even worse news , that word has it that 200 diesel generators are being gathered on the docks in Melbourne to be sent here to be employed as Bass Link is months away from being repaired. So imagine the noise and pollution that will cause not to mention the $$$$ it will cost.

Wow at the 200 generators!!

Whatever happened to the old Bell Bay power station, it was always meant to be the back up station in these circumstances?

Yes you have 3 warm days coming up but at least it will cool again after that. grin

Good to see you've had a nice run of cooler days. The 16 last Tuesday - a cracker!! grin

I can't get down there quick enough. Just to put some perspective on it....

The last couple of nights we have had a low of 30 degrees, the coast has been hotter still. Then it has rocketed up to 41/ 42 at home. It kind of reminds me of the massive heat waves we used to suffer when we lived in Adelaide back in the early eighties. The old Bonaire pumping hard into Mum and Dads room whilst my brother and I slept on the floor. My job to ice down the buckets so the air blew cooler.

Bring on Tassie I say.

Hi all from sunny Hobart , yesterday around 25c and dry as . Same scenario today 22 so far and not a cloud in sight. Talked to several people around town today and even they are complaining about the dry and impending heat we are set to have. I know it's getting to people when they whinge to me about the heat before I've even said a word. poke
A bit of a sea breeze now but that usually has been dropping off in the late afternoon and bringing the maximums for the day in around 5:30 pm.
More great news from down here , the Honey industry is in real trouble because the bushfires have wiped out vast areas of Leatherwood and other native species. They are saying it will take 70 years to regrow the Leatherwood forest areas damaged and Tasmania's famous Leatherwood honey will suffer greatly.
More on the ABC news site.
Gee I just can't wait for next Summer what a great time of year. cry
