Surely 29mls is better than the last 6 months?

Yes its great Kino, but its not really cutting it for 40 months of generally dry weather. Beautiful steady rain yesterday cant complain, but we need weeks of that, or 250mm over 3 days to get things back something resembling on track.
We get this little spells and then 4-6 weeks of no rain, and its been like that for years, so we arent getting sucked into thinking a pissy inch is going to sort out our woes. Maybe 25-50mm does a lot more out west, but doesnt seem to around here.
Once the sun comes out, nothing has changed and the 3 inches in the dam will be gone next time the pump is on. Need meters, not inches in dams. I was talking about the dry here long before there was a sniff of it in the Illawarra. Started our descent in May 2015.

I would have been happy with 30mm here in a single day. Have only accumulated 35mm since August the 11th! Considering the decent rain events we have had, we have had hardly anything compared to Sydney and north. I do agree that your area, Stormy has been dryer for a longer period than us down here

Yeah I've noticed all the good rain has dodged your area, and indeed it still looks fairly dry up there. Drove through Appin today and that area looks really green in comparison. Usually the Highlands is a magnet for rainfall.

Yeah pretty crazy, a tornado was reported as well earlier in the day. Think it was from the same storm that hit Maryborough.

12-17C today, hopefully this wintry foul weather has not got much left in it. (although the rain is welcome).
October average is well below average for this neck of the woods (about 3.4C), even though it is early days.

Like an old song says, it's raining again. Another 4 mm at Chatswood since 9:00, nearly 5 at OH, which has now had about 150% of its average October rainfall, its first wetter than average month there since June last year.

Regarding temperatures, we're paying for the endless Summer (which ended April 16) with endless Winter. Not that the Winter was particularly cold, it's just not leaving. It is a cold air mass over us at the moment, with 850 temps over Sydney a Wintry 2 degrees.

And no need to worry about fading curtains, the Sun's hardly shown its face since we changed the clocks. About 12 hours in the first 4 days of Daylight Saving, plus maybe another 2 today, if that.

With any luck Winter could be gone by October 16.

Some chunky showers pushing in, being helped sit-up while being pushed over the escarpment.

Btw first time since March 2016 we’ve had 9 days in a row with recorded rainfall; and first October with 9 days in a row with recorded rainfall since 2008!

Hmm. 2009-10 El Nino after 2008. Interesting considering a looming El Nino.

Not sure that’s a correlation given the 09-10 event was 12m later?

I know this may annoy Snowmaker, but with yesterday's on and off showers and a near constant drizzle all night, we have added 19mm to our overall total for this rain event. So we are now at 101mm since it started to rain around here in late September.

It has been the almost perfect rain event here, with mostly light rain and very little runoff. That said we are still hundreds of millimeters short of what we should have had over the last 15 months, and I hope we all get a lot more, especially those who depend on rain to fill their dams and tanks, and to water their crops.

The rain has been useful but would be nice if we could get more summer like temps with it. This weather is absolute crap, it's still winter but much more depressing because it isn't sunny.

Looking at the forecast the warmer weather is on its way next week with temps in the high 20's out this way and some more showers mid week to go with it so you'll both get your wish. grin

Interesting stat of the day. This is the first month that Penrith has recorded above average monthly rainfall since March 2017 (18 months).

That is a very good effort rainfall wise! The best thing about this system for areas like yours RS is the prolonged period of time that precipitation fell in, whether it was heavy or not. Probably much more useful rain than receiving 50mm+ within the space of a say 2 hours. Potential for another 10mm or so for some places today and tomorrow. Not good news for the Everest tomorrow!!

Raised this in the climate thread:

Quote:
If we get rain here today, which is likely, it'll be the first Oct since 2005 to record 10 straight rain days in a row. If the forecast rain comes off, which looking at models is sure possible, it'll be the longest period of days with rainfall recorded for here (Bellambi) since records began (granted the station is only 22 years of age, but still impressive).

For Albion Park it's already the longest spell since March 2017 and longest on record for Oct (again, station is only 20-odd years old) and Kiama is also similar (2009 is the last Oct it recorded 9+ days rain in a row).

Well we have had months of just about dry weather, so it can rain every day for 2 months if it likes, it will take that much rain to lift the water table here and fill cattle dams and creeks, but I would hate the rain if I lived in the city I suppose.Bring it on I say.
